'69 Alfa Bertone Junior GTA Recreation/Replica

Intermitently i've posted pictures of my Alfa Junior GTA-R that i'm building, on the 'Junior Bertone appreciation thread'.
I've now decided to put them all together.
Intention is to build a GTA-R similar to the ones that Alfaholics have done.
My starting point was a 1969 Stepfront car that was a stalled restoration.
Here it is before the previous owner started to strip it.
As I bought it and before the bodyshop started their work.
Starting to strip the old paint.

Alfaholics do a 216bhp engine but cost is £££££'s, over £10k with ancillaries! With engines it really is the law of diminishing returns when it comes to bhp/£.
For me its more the torque than the headline bhp that's important. The car is primarily going to be a fast and fun road car with maybe 1 or 2 track days a year, so i want drivability not a screamer that's either 'on' or 'off' the cam.
Any recommendations from those that know (really know not think they know!) would be appreciated.
Regarding running gear, planning on using lots of Alfaholics suspension and brake goodies but need to keep careful eye on purse strings as its too easy to spend more than is healthy!
One route I'm not actively pursuing is weight reduction. There are many items with holes drilled for weight saving which save literally grams, but double the cost. Don't get me wrong i fully appreciate the benefit of saving 10's of Kg but its not a heavy car to start with and saving grams is going to make no noticeable difference to my driving enjoyment but could put my bank balance in jeopardy of financial seizure.
