Dealing with seller's is just as bad...
Discussion
I am absolutely fuming right now.
Went to look at a couple of cars at the weekend, one of which was a 6 hour round trip. The car was perfect for me though and we agreed on a price so I rang him later that night and said I'd have it. He was happy, I was happy, all was good.
So yesterday I transferred £10,000 into his account with the promise of the remaining £1600 to go in first thing this morning. He said that was fine and we had arranged collection for tomorrow night so I cancelled a work event, sorted out insurance, arranged for a lift (which involved my gf getting a train to Essex from Derby so she could drive me to collect it) and everything was looking good.
Until I got a text this morning that is. Not a phone call, oh no, a text. He told me that he has decided he doesn't need to sell the car but will ever so generously return me my money.
Why the f
k do people put their cars up for sale if they then decide they don't want to sell it? Such a f
king waste of time. And there is sweet f
k all I can do about it.

Although I guess things to learn:
1. If you want to buy - buy. Don't do a 6 hour round trip to view, to then repeat it to collect later.
2. Don't be so trusting with your money or people. That seems a HUGE risk transferring that kind of money to a personal bank account.
3. If any money changes hands EVER, get a receipt for it there and then. Had you have done this then you'd own the car and if they changed their mind they would have to "buy" it back from you or else it would be theft.

Unfortunately it was a last minute decision to view the car on Sunday and with banks being closed I couldn't withdraw cash so couldn't pay for the car then and there and therefore couldn't collect it.

He's already offered me the money and I know where he lives so I'm not concerned about not getting it back. I'm just f
ked off that he changed his mind and didn't even have the balls to tell me over the phone.ali4390 said:

I travelled 450 miles from my house to Aberdeen to buy an M3CS that had been described to me over the 'phone and also with numerous pics. I viewed the car and then travelled home the 450 miles from Aberdeen without it, as clearly it wasn't as described when seen in the metal. Still, you win some, you lose some. Was a hell of a long day mind you!

Don't let him know how mad you are until you've received the money back. Remember, he hold the chips at the minute. However when you have the money, feel free to post him some dog doo.

This, I always buy the car and bring it back with me, once I did leave a deposit of £100 or so and collected it a day or so later, but he was a member of the owners club so I did trust him.

The linked thread reveals all. Long story short, another w
ker that had taken a deposit then changed his mind later leaving the buyer in the lurch. He came on here looking for approval and the thread didn't go too well for him.
Ah yeah, I remember that and thinking what a tool he sounded. Now I know how his buyer felt!

This is what I'm bearing in mind at the moment, which is why I haven't been back in touch till I've calmed down slightly.I'll be civil and ask for my money back and then move on as there isn't a lot else I can do!

Afraid not.Even if he has paid 90% he isnt the owner until the ful amount has been paid and the V5 has been signed and handed over.
Technically it is a breach of contract but its really not worth the hastle of doing anything about it. Get your money back then let the seller know exactly what you think of him and put it down to experience.

When he gives you what you paid back ask him "is that it?" or "where's the rest?". Then mention all the costs incurred.. fuel, arranging insurance, train tickets etc. If he's got owt about him he should at least offer something for wasting your time. Gutted for you chap, I'd be popping vessels!

Bearing in mind he only let me know via text, I'm thinking he has nothing about him.
Believe me, I want to thrash him senseless, however I'm trying to remain calm and think about fate, and there's always more and all that bulls
