Breaking news- a racing car has been reported as crashing at Duxford airfield Cambs injuring the driver.

Duxford is local to me and it predominantly a straight runway and not a particularly long one at that, I've also never known it to be used for race testing.

Hope the drivers ok

typical superb reporting from the BBC:

F1 Marussia-Cosworth driver hurt in testing crash

A driver has been injured when a Formula 1 car crashed during testing in Cambridgeshire.

He was hurt while driving a car for the Berkshire-based Marussia-Cosworth team at the Imperial War Museum, in Duxford, earlier.

It is believed the car hit a stationary vehicle. The driver's condition is not known.

Emergency services have been called to the scene.

(may have even got the sex of the driver wrong!)

"Emergency services have been called to the scene"

Shouldn't those services be at Duxford just in case something like this happens?

Hope the drivers and anyone else injured are OK?

It is a straight-line test. How on earth did they manage to get a 'normal' car on the track?

By the looks of their twitter page http://twitter.com/#!/Marussia_F1Team it's Maria Villota driving, there's a picture of her in the car ready to drive posted an hour ago.

Hope everyone's ok.

EDIT: BBC have updated their information to say it's a female test driver. Accelerated suddenly into the back of a lorry frown

Hope she didn't go under.

Apparently "straight line" testing is ok?

They probably have a paramedic or 2 with an ambulance on site. But who knows what the problems are with moving the truck off the car, or the severity of the injuries. For all we know standard procedure is "call for help as you might need it", and the driver has twisted a knee getting out the car in a hurry. Or they want an air lift to hospital in case of head injuries.
