Can't say I noticed this when I first bought the car which is quite surprising if it was there, can anyone shed any light on how this hole is in the back of my car? Three things come to mind, one is it should be there, another is that there was a panel fitted there which has been easily popped out because of lack of care and attention, thirdly someone has purposefully put it there for whatever reason. It seems very linear to be a complete accident.

Love the fact you are using your dog as a camera tripod

I thought the bumper was opaque and there was a small dog in the boot!

I spent quite some time squinting at the first picture, and all I was thinking was "That's not a hole, that's a dog?" but then I saw the second photo.... hehe

It looks to me like it's aftermarket parking sensors. Although why you'd want to remove plastic from it, to make them sit flush maybe?

That was my first thought, but there doesn't seem to be any holes for wiring, bracket etc.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a definitive answer yet as there's lots on here with MK3s.

Don't have one on mine, can't see what it would be for, it isn't for the tow hook. The rough edges suggest it was a previous owner, not OEM. As others have said- a DIY parking sensor that was later removed?

Yep not a clue, definitely not an import as well. I asked this on the MX-5 owners club forum as well and the majority of them are thinking it was probably a parking sensor but again they are just guessing. MX-5 parts sell a replacement for it and it'll be over £100, can't really afford that at present especially when factoring in my non-existent diy expertise. Anyway, I'm saving for the Eibach 30mm suspension lowering kit first which to me seems far more important (it's just ruddy annoying).

I would say looking at the size of it on that titty it was a laser park pro fitted to the chuff of your motor
