Hi,

Hoping everyone can help a Japmad man with a Blue oval query.

My friend's father has a Sierra Coswowrth that has been dry stored ish for quite a while, occasionally is started but hasn't had much road use for a good few years.

It is completley original even down to the exhaust which is shot.

He has asked me if i would take the car away and A. tidy her up (wheels need a refurb, bodywork needs a good clean, interior etc)

The other thing is to look into any mechanical issues. I can cover the basic mechanics of brakes, filters, exhaust change etc but cambelts etc I will be using a mechanic for safety.

I know where to look for jap parts and know what pattern parts are good and which are poor however with Fords I would like some advice especially as its a 'fast ford'

So, where is the best place to buy service items in the form of discs,pads,oil/air filters, plugs, cambelt etc do people go OE or is there a good quality supplier.

Next thing what else should i be looking out for above the norm to get her through an MOT any known faults? I'm assuming as its RWD less to think about?

Its on a J plate, has the cris-cross spoke wheels and is moonstone greyish do you need to know anymore?

The car isn't a basket case btw just in need of some TLC.

Sorry for the epic post!

many thanks

George

You sure it's 2wd?

By the time they were on a J plate they were all 4x4.

As for getting parts try your local Ford dealer for a start since it's all original anyway, they may surprise you how much stuff you can still get from them.

Also maybe have a look on passionford, there are plenty traders on there to help out if need be.

I always got my bits from Graham at GS Motorsport when I had a Sapphire Cosworth

If it is a 4x4 it should have bonnet vents.

Ah right, well no bonnet vents and my mistake its on a F registration so guess that means it is a RWD apologies for the confusion.

Hi, just noticed this thread. As the numbers dwindle, it is getting harder to find some of the parts, but not impossible. Service items, such as oil filters and spark plugs are still available from Ford. 071C spark plugs are good for 400bhp+, cost about £2 each, and are an RS turbo item on their screen! Oil filters are about £5, 2wd being longer, 4wd (4x4 saff cos and escos) being short/stubby items (don't get them mixed up, as they don't fit, and the staff can get confused!)

I think you can buy a std exhaust system, but in stainless from an aftermarket co. (can't remember which, scorpian/magnex/mongoose)

Any suspension bushes are best replaced with poly bushes instead of rubber imo.

The best people (all in my opinion of course) to speak to would be SCS (harvey Gibbs) in Petebourgh for engine+transmission 01733 576614

North Yorkshire Spares 01944 710368 for anything you can no longer buy new

And R&B motorsport 01508 557822. Mike Rainbird is an absolute legend, what he doesn't know about cossie's isn't worth knowing, and has all the contacts/names you could ever need. He is a big big name in the RS scene, and is a fantastic help with any problems you may have, any parts/services you may require, I can testify to that! I would start with him!

Hope this helps.
