New Rules For Driving In France - Get Ordering Your Kit Now

With many PH'ers nipping across the channel on a regular basis I thought I'd best bring this to your attention:

Yep, in 4 months time you'll have to carry your own breathalyser kit in the car or face an on-the-spot fine. And they will (according to that article) be targeting the Channel ports with random checks.
I wonder how long before that requirement applies in the UK?

k me an 11 Euro fine?
I'll take my chances.
If that's right, the fine is cheaper than the kit, and not worth bothering with.... unless they stop you at the roadside until you can produce one, in which case you're in for a long walk and/or an impounded car. Anyone know the exact rules on this ?

It would seem unlikely though that they're going to tow every single vehicle that doesn't have one.
I mean this is France FFS. The land of the protest!

Fair point but its sure to rise and you can bet your life that when it does go to (say) 100 Euros you wont be aware of the rise as it wont make the news over here.

... it has emerged that the chief of the road safety group that persuaded Nicolas Sarkozy’s government to adopt the ruling is also a senior executive with the leading manufacturer of the blow-in-the-bag the kits.
...the president of the anti-drink driving lobby group I-Test, works for Contralco, the leading manufacturer of the equipment. I-Test was formed just eight months before Sarkozy’s government adopted the new law in March last year.
Contralco, one of only two companies who produce a test-kit of the required standard, was reportedly in financial difficulties until the law was approved. But since then it has taken on over 100 staff, thanks in no small part to a demand for five million test kits a month."
