Baby on way, need a 5 door car, 5k budget? Help.
Discussion
Okay dudes
We currently run a 3 door car, Also have a motorbike I am going to sell.
we have our first baby due on the 24th of October.
I would rather get a car with back doors and more boot space for pram ect, ect.
We are on a 5k budget, more nearer 4k the better, more for baby fund that way.
Not bothered about diesel or petrol. Just reliable and cheap. Help would be great cheers.

Focus is the baby wagon of choice round our way.
They're not a bad drive, good visibility, enough space for child seats, big boot for prams, and some models have paedo-tints & parking sensors.
Plus isofix is a doddle to retrofit if not already.
Awful turning circle though.

This would be a good choice but I had a similar requirement (for the other halfs car) and was finding the sub 5k CRV's to be quite ropey, missing services etc.
I still think they would've been fine but instead plumped for a Tucson. Not as nice inside but well kitted out and I got a low mile, 06 Tucson (whereas CRVs were older and more miles) ...
Still was painful to buy a big, diesel automatic with power steering but hte ohter half loves it.

We have just had our little boy, 1 month ago. So far, paraphernalia is limited to the buggy frame, pram to fit in it and the travel seat, along with the bag etc
All of this comfortably fits in the boot of the wife's A3, the baby seat fits behind the passenger seat, but leaves me (6'2") slightly short on leg room in the front. My Octavia has a huuuuge boot, so if we decide to take a weekend away, we will use the skoda, it's also slightly more comfortable in the pax seat with baby seat behind.
Can't wait until he is big enough for a forward facing car seat, that will be much much better.

depends on if your want an estate or saloon i guess, but a few options;
estate - jaguar x-type, BMW 3 series or 5 series, Subaru legacy/forester, audi a4
saloon - saab 93, volvo c60..
the list really does go on forever, however, my parents have had pretty much all these cars and the best of the bunch seems to be jag x-type, the subaru, and the volvo. All ran for 100K plus, ran problem free during their time with us, and where all pretty cheep to run and insure. mother crashed the subaru @90mph and walked about with nothing but a scratch from broken glass, father crahed the BMW320d into the central reservation and also walked away unscathed.
my best mate just had a child and bought a land rover discovery on the basic that his child would be safe, and he could fit an endless amount of stuff in - budget was 4k and that bought him a seriously nice discovery with 100k on the clock, leather seats, satnav, 7 seats, etc.. does 45mpg diesel and is solid as a rock.
If im honest though, your criteria is pretty broad and there is a lot out there.
