Vx220 - good all weather tyres / good for trackdays too!

Hi

I am having a dilemma regarding getting some new tyres for my VX220. I currently have Compomotive Mo alloys, 17" rears, 16" fronts, and with Toyo R888's GG compound, but feel these are far too jittery for wet road driving. Ideally looking for something that can be used on track dry and wet, but can also be driven home in wet conditions, without huge fears!!!! Can anyone suggest a good tyre, and where to get them at a good price, budget really no more than £500.00

Current tyre size is
Rear - 225/45 R17/94W
Front - 195/50 R16/84W

I'm just about to pick up some Toyo R1R's for my Europa as my R888's are on the way out.

They come highly recommended.

where you getting yours from Dan?

I am looking at these from Camskill

Yokohama AD08's
slightly different sizes to the R888's I have on now, hopefully won't affect handling too much

Front - 205/45/r16 -£114.00 each
Rear - 225/45/r17 £118.00 each

R888s have a very rigid sidewall which means they are a bit snatchy in the wet. The Yokohamas will probably be better in this respect, lighter too, but still aren't going to clear water like a normal road tyre.

888's massively twitchy in th wet, really not happy using them in the wet, and a wet track even worse, they also seem to tramlines hugely too,

Hoping for summer , road and occasional track tyres the Yoko's will be better?

Assume the slightly wider fronts on the Yokos want affect handling drastically either, price wise they seem good

I have Yoko ad08,s on my car and they are fine in the wet and seemed very capable on a recent track day at Snetterton ( only a little Nissan Almera gti ). Was expecting some understeer from them on a sporty little fwd car but they held very well. Have used 888,s around the Ring ( on a rented Swift ) and the yoko,s seemed just as good. Would recommend them.

Great stuff, think I'll go for these then, £465 a set seems good value compared to 888's at £700!
