Hello all, been a member for a few years now, cant even remember if i have posted yet!? anyway.... i recently got myself a 2004 c4s with pcm2, sports seats, x73 and aerokit, wow what a car! loving it but feel the urge to replace the old pcm! it is most and i have the bose option, my question is has any manufacturer to date come out with a most compatable headunit i could upgrade to? or is my ONLY option to put a new amp in and bypass factory fibre optic system?,
thank you in advance for any replys! i posted the same question on 911uk and not one response!

These guys did a MOST bypass kit:

Although it seems the kit may be discontinued they may have another solution

The problem is the Bose amp splits into different frequencies which need low amp speakers to match them. You are best off replacing the speakers, amp and head unit rather than dicking about with the crap Bose.

I chose Pioneer head unit, Sinfoni amps, and Morel Elate Ltd speakers and sub. But that wasn't cheap... wink

Call Greg at Auto Audio in London and I'm sure he'll be happy to give free advice on the best options - they do this day in and day out from minis to million pound cars / boats, and GB get them to do customer work too. So highly recommended!

The lastest news I got this week is that for the 2006 models onwards several manufacturers have solutions. However 2002-2004 you have issues.

thanks for the replys gents, so the bose amp has the high and low pass filters built in rather than filters/capaciters on each driver? i dont think the sound is that bad to be honest, it lacks a bit of mid range but not bad for a factory set up, oh well it looks like i will have to have an amp fitted aswell, ive heard the bose speakers are lower impedence than most other brands, is this true?

I'm thinking of this...

Going to call the suppliers and see what they have to say but on the surface it seems to be for MOST Bose 911. I have a 2003 996tt and planning on using this.

Have you called them and asked them?

I believe some of the double-DIN head units have multi-channel amplifiers built-in so providing they wouldn't explode at the prospect of 2 ohm speakers, you might get away with the Bose ones.

..they come with PCM1 I believe, mines a 2004-4S, anyhow take it out and beat it to death with a hammer, and the amp under the bonnet, and go and get yourself a nice new shiney head unit + amp system, Kenwood in mine, usual blue teeth and IPodery + Nav, it's superb, £1500 should get you a nice set up installed, make sure you get it suppressed properly, and clear the battery tray drains out or it will overflow, and flood your new amp and kill it..!
