Suspect my plate may be cloned...

Just got back to the house to find that the lovely Edinburgh Council has sent me a Bus Lane Enforcement charge. It alleges that I was driving a car with a number plate which matches my car.

Without revealing too much details as I'll be contesting the charge, I have no recollection of ever driving on that particular bus lane just after 9am on the specific date. Apart from that, I was working in the office during that time so will ask my work to verify that I was indeed at work when the alleged offence took place.

It brings me to issue that my plate may have been cloned (which I would imagine is fairly easy).

What next steps should I take in this situation? Contact the DVLA or the police aswell?

First thing I'd do is ask for photographic evidence, just to be sure.

On the penalty notice, there are 2 photographs which shows the car on the bus lane on an empty road! Since the Edinburgh Council started enforcing a charge for anyone who drives on the bus lane, I've been more aware than ever not to stray near the bus lane unless it's in an emergency situation.

Can you not tell if it's your car or not?

Any distinguishing marks, tow bar, PH smilie?

Can't tell any distinguishing marks as the pic is quite small. I know for a fact that I was nowhere near that road that day.

No I don't live in Edinburgh. Yes it's the same make and model.

My drive to work is nowhere near that road.
