If so post up some pics please smile

Mine are currently 18" but with tyres becoming due soon I was thinking of a new set of 19" alloys, but then I thought perhaps I'd go for 20".

The car's an SL55 AMG so if anyone's got a pic of that car with 20's that would be good smile

Also, any opinions on tram lining or any other drawbacks? Thanks.

drawbacks, vastly decreased comfort. its down to the thickness of the tyres. my mum has 20s on the range rover which arent that bad, but if you go to 22" its more painful to drive. same with the Smart Roadster, that thing tries to fuse your spine every time you hit a bit of gravel, but its only got 14" wheels on it. what tyre profile would you have on the 20s and what car is it going on?

I believe the correct phrase is "rollin' on dubs"...

Oooh, yuck no. 20 inch wheels on an SL would look (and be) awful. 18s all the way, for me, both for looks and more functional concerns.

An SL55 Marcedes, which came with 285/35x18's but the facelift version has 285/30x19's standard I think. I assume the 20's will have 285/25x20 tyres.

I realise it will be a harsher ride but I actually like that! I'm used to driving Jap Turbo'd cars with racing suspension that shake you to bits on a rough road, I like that lol! To me a sports car should be a very firm ride, I don't like sloppy smile I leave the SL permanently on ABC sport which firms up the ride, but the 18's look too small.

Why not get 22" or even some 24"?

I mean, they will be even better won't they?

The car will drive brilliantly, you will gain the respect of your fellow man, and you will certainly get your knob polished more often.

I hope you do realise there's a world of difference between a car with firm springing (and damping) - and one which rides like st due to zero sidewall compliance and a quarter tonne of unsprung mass per corner...

Whatever. 30s is where it's at.

Fathers Jag XK is on 20 inch wheels and rides brilliantly, i understand bigger sidewalls do help but the suspension setup and stiffness of the car is more important! go for 20 inch wheels the Sl will handle it!! do watch out for kerbs tho and avoiding imbeciles on lanes by going for the bank......

The only thing that should 'roll on dubs' IMHO.

I have 21s and find the ride quality pretty good provided the road surface is in reasonable condition. That translates to near limo ride quality in Berkshire and bloody awful ride quality in and around Glasgow!

It's certainly no worse than the 19s I had on my previous 5 series although the same caveat applies - if your suspension is on its way out the larger rims will hasten its demise and highlight any weakness.

26" wheels on a Jaguar S type. Sadly I find myself actually liking it, after all it is a bit, erm, "different"...
