But what MPG do you get?

Ive had a Mondeo Tdci 130ps for 30 months, done 80K in it (now on 150K) its had w/pump, DMF/clutch/starter, 2 susp coils/drop links/wishbones, and is more spacious than an Octavia/Vectra or Focus, it gets a true 50mpg which i need cos it works for its keep but its time could be coming to an end.....so what do i buy for £6000 on a maximum 4 year plate?

Audi A4 1.9tdi 130bhp.

Bought mine at 110,000.

It now has 292,600 on the clock.

Still smooth, economical and reliable. Had a new clutch recently, but very little else.

Just paid £1900 for a mondeo TDCi 130ps on 87K miles and it's lovely - although it doesn't fit your 4YO criteria being a 54 plate. Clutch & DMF done last year. It's also a Ghia X so has almost all the options smile

Boring but frugal

ETA about 50mpg on the Mondeo, 48mpg on the V70D5

Sounds like trigger's broom. I imagine the cost of all those repairs bring your consumption down by 10MPG equivalent. . . . . . .

Just got 42mpg on the last tank in the ole' 1.25 Fiesta, but usual is about 34-37 depending on quantity 'burned in anger' driving

About 19mpg on average. Managed to get 28 out of it once.

I can however, attest to the TDCI 130's economy, i used to get about 480 miles out of £50

Don't know, but when petrol was £1.33.9 I was getting 60 miles from £10 in my Astra.

The daily driver shed '99 passat 1.9tdi 110bhp. Worth nothing, costs a few hundred quid a year in maintenance. 53mpg average over the last 30k miles. I can leave it anywhere. Proper shed motoring.

The weekend toy 1975 spitfire 1500. Never less than 38mpg although I thrash it mercilessly. On a sedate run it would give 45 or so if I kept the speed down.

I always do that for ppm trips, I call it maximising my margin biggrin
I've got 800 business miles coming up next week (Rubs hands together)

Oh, and I usually get around 32mpg. Short urban journeys are a killer.
I can get 45mpg + on a 50+ mile journey if I feel like it though which is nice for a hot hatch.

I do 25,000 work miles a year, first 10k at 45ppm and the rest at 25ppm. *rubs hands together whilst laughing*

A disappointing 43mpg from my old A4 (120PS) Tdi Avant over 90,000 miles. The replacement is a 183PS 320d Touring and has so far managed 47mpg over the first 10,000 miles for the same driving (had 53mpg that week when everyone was queing for fuel and I took it very gently to eek it out). My Z3 gets about 26mpg so almost half my daily, but twice the fun. My RS2000 has used about 2 gallons over the last 13 years though, but that's another story...

2003 1.6 Focus - when thrashed I think the worst I've had is 37. Best is 43. Usually get about 41.

Averaging around 27mpg at the moment, that's a mix of A and B roads, some traffic and a bit of hooning.

2001 2.0 Avensis petrol, £1900.

Since April last year, it's done 15k and averaged 44mpg on my daily commute (28miles each way, mostly DC).

New discs and pads (£115)

2X O2 sensors (£47 each)

Front tyres (£75 each)

Think that's it, aside from oil, coolant, filters etc.

Very very easy car for the home mechanic, and bloody well built (in Derbyshire) biggrin
