Firstly, apologies as this is going to be a loooong post. Secondly, don't tell me I need to go to the Doctors as I won't go.

I weigh about 13 stone and was 6 foot tall.

I suffer from chronic depression/OCD and am considered as an "at risk person" by the NHS DWP etc. I'm fine at home just fall apart when with "professionals" who have sway over my life and just sit there shaking and say nothing - my wife has to deal with it all and it's her that got me a Blue badge and a bit of DLA.

I was also diagnosed with Ankylising spondilocis (sp?) about 15 years ago after a particularly bad bout of back troubles/physiotherapy.

About 5-6 years ago I started slipping discs randomly in my lower back, neck and shoulder at height, I also started to get a lot of trouble with my hips and knees as well just to add to the joy!

Over the last three years I have lost three inches in height and my spines curvature has increased dramaticly, both forward and sideways. I am in a lot of pain pretty much all the time and was prescribed Morphine several years ago which I continue to take, though I refuse to take as much morphine as has been prescribed because of the side effects and continue to be in pain. I walk badly and with the aid of a stick and have to stop frequently as the pain builds up. I spend most of my days laying on my belly (most comforable position) in front of the computer/telly but I do try to do a little bit of something manual each day.

Anyway, recently noticed that I'm having difficulty breathing and that my chest/ribcage no longer moves as it should. I get breathless just having a shower for Gods sake. Also noted that I'm sweating lots after the slightest exertions. Also, I get unbelievably tired after even slight excercise.

My wife has a pretty good relationship with our Doctor who knows what a "headcase" I am, and will listen to her description of my various ailments and will prescribe accordingly. However, he is currently off work "long term sick" himself so we're a bit stuffed!

Is there anything I/we can do to get me a bit healthier and to improve my quality of life without Doctors/hospitals ?
