Anyone know WHEN the points on ones license start from? My offense was in October 2001 and I was convicted in court in May 2002 ... 3 points.

Thanks.

I think its date of conviction. If you think about it, if you mess around with the dates before going to court for, say, 6 months and you get a 1 year ban, then in effect it would only be 6 months if you were to take date of offence as the stating point.

Simple innit

Points go on your Licence the date you are convicted but for the purpose of totting the 12 and ban are counted from the date of the offence.

I've said it before but the reaon is to stop people adjourning a case time after time to escape a ban.

Couldn't this work in your favour? Lets assume Dubai guy's car insurance was due in December 2001 (after offence but before conviction) he wouldn't be loaded against at that point. When the points were added in May the insurance premium would be unlikely to be changed until the following year. Come October 2004 they come off so he would in effect only be penalised for 2 years, instead of 3.

From date of conviction (ie. court date if in court or offence date if on Fixed Penalty) this is the date that is actually written on the counterpart licence.

correct me if i'm wrong but when you apply for insurance, one of the questions they ask is do you have any points, or and convictions pending? And as we all know lying on your insurance can invalidate your cover.
