Looking at buying a V8V as a daily driver for next 6months.

I test drove an N400 last week, and liked it. They are retailing at c£50k, which is roughly same price as the cheapest 4.7s.

Which would be a better bet - for driving pleasure for next few months, and then for minimising displeasure at depreciation when selling on, in a few months? Also, N400 seems easier to sell on?

Finally, if I went 4.7, is the sport shift a big improvement on earlier models? From what I have read, I'm planning to go manual for sure if it's a 4.3

More generally if I found a good standard 4.3 at a favourable price, are there any specific model year differences between say an 07 and an 08?

Thanks in advance

if you are not going to keep it long, I would say a N400 is safer depreciation wise - its more rare and older versus newer and more common

if I was buying to keep a few years, Id get a 4.7, the newer the better, lots of small improvements were continually made over time from the 4.3 cars

My N400 is for sale - no ad's up yet.....

I went for the N400 because depreciation slightly better and also smaller engine so better MPG and I also prefer the look of the N400 wheels/sills/lights to the standard V8.

Very much a head turner of a car, gets so many compliments.

Interesting, I very nearly started a similar thread yesterday. Will be watching with interest.

The other thing I can't seems to choose between is Coupe vs Roadster.

The Coupe looks so damn good, but the Roadster obviously offers a completely different experience.

I saw an '08 N400 with 20k miles up for sale at 44.5 a couple of months ago. Needed a service but still a decent price.

Also saw a '58 4.7 with Sport Pack for under 50

Prices are obviously a bit firm at the moment, i'm expecting them to drop at the start of winter as stock won't shift as quickly.

Maybe worth waiting?

Wow that is an amazing price for an N400! Must have been private though?

Yes it was private on PH.

It appeared for about 1 week, i'm assuming he had no takers because it then turned up at Grange AM for 51k the week after. They must have offered him 42/43k for it.

Quick summary... the N400 is the best of the 4.3's, mainly because it is fully loaded and has the sports pack and power kit which wasn't available on any other 4.3 at that time - but - both (and the side sills) can now be fitted to any 4.3 (at a price of course) and some standard 4.3's have been upgraded to this spec.

The 4.7 represents a big step forward and unless the N400 is considerably cheaper I wouldn't hesitate to get the newer model, not only do you get a big chunk of extra power and better mid-range grunt (and improved economy) it has a host of other enhancements including the new more functional much improved centre console, upgraded chassis - suspension - steering, clutch/gear change improvements - better optional hard drive nav and a more (including the ECU and Lamy pen biggrin). Hope this helps, for all the info you can get the guide www.astonmartinreview.co.uk which should serve you well (but I'm biased wink) in combination with the excellent advice on this website.

Agree, I can't think why anyone would buy a 400 if they can afford a 420 (i.e. any 4.7) with sports suspension. That combination has the handling of the N400 with more power and better interior.

Depreciation is an interesting factor, but the N400 is inherently less desirable, therefore should come at a lower price. I don't buy into the rarity as a reason for a higher price, it only means few people wanted them when they were new. Cygnets are rare but I don't see that making them any more desirable

I had this dilema a few years ago on my first roadster.
I managed to get a really good deal on a 4.7 sports pack car.
Glad I did the engine and interior made the difference for me.
