"A man has died and four other people have been injured after a car overturned during a test-drive at Europe's leading vehicle test centre.

Emergency services were called to the Millbrook circuit in Bedford, shortly after 11.30am today to reports of a crash.

It's understood that paramedics took the five injured people to Bedford Hospital where doctors later pronounced one man dead.

None of the passengers travelling in the car - three men and a woman - suffered life-threatening injuries.

Tonight Bedfordshire Police said the driver who had died is a 47-year-old man from Swindon, Wiltshire.

The family of the victims have been informed of the tragedy, but the driver has yet to be publicly named.

The incident is the second crash involving a test-driven car today.

Two hours before, and just 38 miles away, Marussia F1 racing driver Maria de Villota was seriously injured during a test-drive at Duxford airfield in Cambridgeshire.

Blimey! That's two accidents in as many days - I do hope the threes don't come in to play in this instance.

Condolences to family and friends.

few more details now of whats seems a tragic accident,

"The driver who was killed was David Allan, he was a Honda employee as were the passengers, they were testing vehicles for Honda and he was one of their regular test drivers who was very experienced including competing regularly in several races in the UK. A very tragic accident."
