http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLIFFORD-HORNET-MAXX1-CA...

Seen this and need to upgrade my system in the future. I only really want something that keeps the insurance company happy. Its got to the point, if they want it, they will get it so not interested in putting up a massive fight as I really dont want them coming in the house with the kids being there.

Any advice please or any other alarms you guys might know about. I do have other security so any thiefs looking at this, dont both smile

Dont really want to pay big bucks and not too bothered about the fancy gizmos. Just needs to be CAT 1 and run the central locking...

As long as it comes with a certificate then anything goes really. A few years ago I had a TOAD Ai606 system installed on a couple of cars and it was perfect, plus it's expandable if you want to add other features.

One night the whole neighborhood got 'done over', 2 cars had windows smashed / radios taken, every other car had it's tyres deflated by the same little scumbags.

My TOAD-equipped GTi6 was un-touched. Looked a bit unusual in the morning, with the Police and several neighbours out in the street, as I just got in and drove off scott-free...

Yeah it does, have to add on another £50 to remove my old alarm on top of that price. Seems OK to me. Will speak with the insurance first and find out if they are happy.

Any other alarms in this price range I should be looking at? would hate to miss out on a better alarm?

thanks

My Capri has exactly that make and model, the previous owner fitted it just before I bought the car.

It does the job for the insurance, immobilises a car that obviously doesnt have the modern car chipped keys and it remotely does the central locking which obviously was something the Capri didnt do before.

Downsides-

It goes off all the time in the wind, sorted by taping over the internal movement sensors.

It Auto arms, I dont know if this is standard or if mine is just set up that way but its very annoying,if the garage leaves the keys in the car after a minute or so it auto arms and locks the doors.

Alarm kept going off randomly while earlier this year, traced it to the under bonnet sensor snapping, just bad luck.

I think they're ok for the cash but to be honest Im gonna change the system at some time, I sell Motorhomes and our Auto electrics guys fit Meta Hpats, we never, ever have any problems with them and they dont hammer the vehicle battery, dunno if they are a car or van systen tho but Im sure Meta do a similar car one.

Now that puts me off. I had a M3 with the standard BMW unit fitted and that would go off all the time. Do not want that again. The alarm I have now is great at not going off in the middle of the night for no reason at all.

I did see a Clifford Concept 650 which I had the older version on my other Cosworth and that was good. So might pay the £300 and get that one instead
