Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. Lexus RX300

Looking for a second car for my partner, budget up to 4k, Grand Cherokee 3.1 TD Limited and Lexus RX300 both have quite high spec.

Considered the HR-V, CR-V and Grand Vitara, but the above two seem to be better buys.

Any experiences of either? Seems fuel consumption is considered high on both?

Any feedback greatly appreciated.
