Apparently there was a big DVLA operation at Sainsburys in Oxford today, clamping any untaxed or uninsured vehicles in the car park. I didnt see it myself but the OH said it was bloody hilarious, people(chavs) coming back to find their cars clamped. Im gutted i missed it as I was at work, but if I was I wasn't I would have been straight down there, parked up and treated myself to bag of popcorn.

Anyone else see it? Or experienced similar? I guess Sainsburys would have had to agree to this in advance?

Fantastic! Hopefully they've nipped up the ring road and done similar at the Tesco extra, there's always loads of dubious looking sheds being ragged around in there, especially during the daytime when the rest of us are at work.....

Far fewer at Lidl, it's the supermarket of choice for discerning shoppers according to a topic in The Pie & Piston.

Exactly, Its only the folk that dodge tax/insurance that can afford Sainsburys these days. But thats a different discussion...

Asda in Fulwood would be a very lucrative opportunity for them!

I would have happily paid an entry fee to watch that.

Sainsburys car park = private land. Not sure how the DVLA can do this.

I suspect they must have watched them drive in and then got permission from Sainsbury to clamp on their land. If they didn't seem than actually drive on the road I don't think they can take action as you said it's private land and surely doesn't matter if you have tax etc.

It might be privately owned, but it is still classed as public if the public have access.

I don't think it works like that, similar to how you can be prosecuted for drink driving / without due care etc I believe it extends to any land the public have access to.

When it's done around here they pull people on the road and direct them into car parks to deal with them - presumably with the CP owners consent.

Nope its different, unless the car park is maintained at the public expense no tax is required.

I wish they would do the same to the chavvy pram faces that park in disabled bays.

Asda in Hulme - and DLVA operatives would need to sleep the night in the car park!

Perhaps all the ones they have checked with no tax are also not insured.

I'm surprised that Sainsburys would be happy about that, as it would put some people off from visiting, and clamped cars will take up parking spaces or even become abandoned for some time!
