Just shooting the st, but i'm getting itchy feet about my evo. I've had it a few years now and although it's very, very good at everything it does part of me is bored purely from owning the same car for so long.

So, has anyone had one here and moved to something else that felt worth it? Criteria are as follows...

Rwd
2 door
Manuel
300bhp minimum
Circa 5-7 grand.

So, is there anything in that range/category that would make the move worthwhile? I suspect i already know the answer but just in case i may have missed something...

I can afford an e46 but ive gone against a few and theres nothing in it, added to which knowing my luck i'll buy one with an arse full of cracks. So to speak.

I even started looking at entry level 911s around the 10-11k mark, but i cant justify putting that much money in a car.

Sounds like you don't want to change then. I'd go for the e46 if I had the choice, the older m3 is a bit dated now.

Yeah, the 46 would certainly look and feel newer, i guess part of me still hasnt grown out of the notion that if i'm putting more money in the car pot i expect it to be a lot faster tho.

So, is there anything else in the price range that competes on those criteria? I'm really struggling to think of anything.

e39 M5 and don't open the rear doors?

Or if you are feeling brave, a TVR Chimaera?

Have you considered an E39 M5?

Awesome car for the money!
If mileage doesnt put you off then this is an ideal example with some cash left over for servicing.

Oh and the black and red leather with the wood trim but im sure it wouldn't be too much hassle to change the wood trim at this price! eek

E46 M3, great car, but if you already have a sorted E36 M3 evo, I wouldn't bother - you're just buying into a machine that has more depreciation to do - daft when E36s have stabilised.

I can't remember if you specified four seats or not, but what about a Nissan 350Z, or is that not pokey enough? Edit: forget that, E39 M5 suggested above is a better bet.

I like the 350z, i just dont think i like them enough.

E39 m5 is an awesome, awesome car. Friend of mine had one in silverstone, a perfect colour for them and i was very impressed by the instant wall of power compared to having to work the m3 to get it, but i just dont LOVE them. I think i'm a bit too much of a ponce on the looks of the car. I need to own something that i have to turn back and look at when i go to pay for the petrol.

Monaro?

Not as tactile as the M3, but probably just as fast on the straights. Never mind looking back at it when you go to pay for your fuel, when you come back from paying you'll have a queue of people waiting to ask you all about it.

I'm curious about the monaros. Theyre still strong money. How do they stack up against the m3, point to point?

I went to an E39 M5 from my Evo - needed 5 seats, so not the ideal car from your spec wanting a 2 door. But otherwise, fantastic - made the Evo look amateurish, and the Evo is a fantastic car.

How about a total change of direction and VX220 Turbo? Not 300 bhp, but a remapped one will likely have more BHP per tonne than the ones you're looking at, relatively depreciation proof, and a total change from what you've got now.
