Glasses guide - cars.

Hi my car was written off the other day and already I sense the insurers are about to play silly buggers. They're asking for the v5, purchase receipt, service history and my driving license. Does anybody know it's value according to the 'guide'.

It's a late saab 9000 2.3 aero with factory extras. I can be pm'd if you like. Thanks.

The guides mean nothing really. A look on Autotrader gives you a more realistic answer.

The trade guides probably put it at about £2.75.

I'd collect together some decent adverts etc. of what it would cost you to buy a similar car as on an old car like this CAP and Glass's will basically give it weigh in value.

Adverts don't really show the selling price though, just the asking price? On PH I can see which cars have sold so that'll help me I guess.

The insurance company as you already know will say "20 year old Saab? Here's 20p". Prepare:

• list of similar recent car ads - check PH, AT, & Saab forums. Also get the sold prices if you can
• list of recent work
• state that it's a sought after model now rare in good condition.

Is it salvageable? Consider buying back and selling interior/wheels/Aero goodies as they will probably net you a lot more than the risible payout

It's a real shame that 9000s are worth so little, they are fabulous cars. My dad has had his for 10 years because he can't find anything worth changing it for (certainly no recent Saabs), and my cheapie bought for the winter is still running fine and if it passes the MOT next month will be performing babywagon duties for the forseeable.

^ Hi, yes, I've been trying to find an alternative car but still keep coming back to another 9000 but it'll be hard to find one. Mine was in decent condition, blue paintwork and the two tone cream leather interior. it also had a light coloured dash, sun roof and a trip computor instead of the clock.

My wife can't afford to run the Ruby. It's a fantastic drive, sharp and responsive but it's overall condition is poor. It needs an enthusiast to take it on and I've got a lot of spares for it. It's to decent and rare to scrap and he needs a economical runaround now. So, it'll be sold or swopped for something bland an unexiting I guess.

Sounds like my dad's anniversary - dark blue with sand interior. It might be worth looking for an ok one and making one good one from two bad... My anniversary is a bit tatty in places with no synchro on 2nd but could easily be sorted with a second hand box and a touch up pen ps - if you are breaking are either of the front wings ok?

Sad news about the Ruby. Are on the register? (thread on uksaabs) don't trade it or it will end up scrapped. Definitely sell in the forums. Any rust? That's the big killer...

The ruby has rust on the door bottoms and some front chassis corrosion. It's all repairable but would be to expensive if done at a garage. As for the 9000 I had an engine bay fire. The paints gone from the wings but it's not gone rusty. Clearly has a galvanised body.

So, if I get a silly offer from the insurers I wonder if I could ask them to replace it with another Aero?
