I was up in Brainerd, Minnesota last weekend running a pair of 7 hour races with ChumpCar. On Saturday we were doing OK, my team mate handed the car over to me in the top 5, had to make an unscheduled stop to fix my belts though, which dropped us down a little. About 40 minutes later I was very glad I'd come in! Had a wheel bearing fail on the fastest part of the track (luckily I knew something was up and had backed off a little). Wasn't actually that scary once I realized it wasn't going to roll.

By 1 am the car was back on all four wheels and we took 4th on Sunday!

Any photos of the car afterwards? Which wheel was it?

Yep, here you go:

I went off and found the wheel after the race:

Also found the other part of the brake rotor. The mark above it is where it burned the tarmac!

Gladf you're OK and you handled it well, but it's hardly a big off, surely....You're not even in kitty litter

Good effort.

Good job you werent at the 'ring, they would have charged you £1000 for burning the track!

It's the reservoir for the cool shirt system - absolutely essential when it's 30˚C+ outside!

You know, it would even have come in handy at Road America in April when it was only 60˚F outside; when you're doing a 2 hour stint it gets quite sweaty in the car, even when it's cold outside. Probably much less use in sprint races though.

This ChumpCar malarkey is yet another great value series.

Why on earth isn't there anything like this over here?
(though with our outrageous circuit hire fees, it'd probably end up being bloody expensive!)
