I am genuinely gutted I sold both Mk2 RS2000s for relative peanuts. I can't believe how much RWD ''scorts go for these days...

I sold a pale blue J reg 1300XL in 1980 for about £200 then the M reg Modena green one that replaced it sold in 1983 for £395, although they both had a lot more than 101 miles on the clock!

The problem is what to do with it once you buy it. If you drive it, then it will start depreciating but if you don't drive it then various parts will seize and need replaced...Problems problems!!!

I traded my rusted out 9 year old 1300L Mk2 for about £400 back in 1985...Ten years later bought my parent's 1979 RS2000 Custom for £1,000, I gather they've gone up a bit since then. Unfortunately mine has been off the road for 13 years or so due to needing a wing rail repair that I didn't want to bodge it, so it's waited until now for me to have the time (and inclination) to do it properly. I can't believe the state of some of the Mk2s in the restoration threads on Rallye Sport Escorts, virtually no metal in front of the windscreen is original, but given the (IMHO) silly prices these can fetch I can understand them doing such extreme repairs...
