I am looking to change my Cooper S Works. The mini has been great and I love it for its pace and nimble handling. Around London its as fast as I need and easy to park. However for the motorway I could do with a little more power. So hence the RS.
On paper the Ford seems amazing although the power to weight ratio over the mini is not that great a leap up as you would think.
Anyway has anyone made the move and what was their experience ?

Many thanks

Good lurking.

Do you have an R53 or R56 and is it standard?

I've gone from a Cooper S R53 to a mk 2 RS quite recently.

The mini was great and I loved it's infectious enthusiasm but TBH the RS is in a different league. Ignore the standard 0-60 figures it's the real world performance say 40-70 that is mind blowing and this really is it's forte.

It's a real weapon and is able to cut a lot of exotica down to size if need be and in the right hands. I genuinely have a fear for my licence as I get to know the car as full throttle in anything above 2nd pushes you way past the national speed limit.

The other thing is that it's a normal car when pottering, fine around town stiff but not uncomfortable unlike my mini, great amount of space, I've been down the dump and done all the usual family things in it, and if you are careful you can get 30mpg.

I love the way it looks, road presence is amazing.

A great allround package.

Thanks for your reply and I have the R53 and although I love it in the city want something extra.
The new RS sounds awesome and certainly helps my decision making
