OK, I thought I had it all sorted with the White / Red Interior / Red Roof as per SFO's amazing car. Now, I've just seen a couple of pictures of the GT Silver instead of White.

Do you they really look this good in real life:-

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/987-forum/70...

I can't make my mind up. Will the white look a little dated in a couple of years. Does the GT Silver look sufficiently different from the normal silver? FYI I had a loan 981 from OPC Silverstone in Silver and I wasn't too keen but the GT Silver looks a little darker.

For once my wife is telling me that if I'm spending that amount on a car anyway another 1600 odd quid doesn't really make that much difference (I'm already just over 66k).

Any help please? Until yesterday I was all set on White. Now not sure.

Thanks for that. I did see that thread and the GT Silver doesn't look 'special'. But then again, it's a grey overcast day. As you say, gleaming away under stage lights will make a difference.

I thought I wanted a bold look, but then I saw other photos which made the the GT Silver looked a little more classy.

Out of interest, on the Porsche website do they use the normal silver of GT Silver for the general promo shots of the car?

Fairly sure they use the GT Silver. Remember that 'normal' silver these days is the Platinum Silver that has a slightly golden hue. I always found Actic Silver a bit flat and thought Platinum really suited the 987 (worked really well with the Design pack) but less sure on the 981. My 987 is GT Silver - was an ex demo so wouldn't necessarily have chosen this shade if I was speccing. Looks great when really clean in sunlight and also looks good on a rainy day, particularly if just waxed. In mid-light it takes on a bit of a purple hue which I'm less sure about. Very light sensitive!

Not so sure in white as it looks a bit blocky to me if you know what I mean - 991 coupe looks great in this colour but the 981 with the break up of the roof and side door intakes I think makes it a lot less appealing. Gt silver does look good but I am sure there will be a lot about later on. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/porsche/boxst... Copy the link to see video of silver one in action.

I have gone agate grey but was sorely tempted by guards red with the black wheels. Oh and GT silver as per all the opening press shots

Good luck with choices as colour is just the start.

Saw a friends rs60 spyder (987.1) the other day, which is of course gt silver. The colour looked really nice against the red leather and roof.

I don't think either red, grey, silver or white is particularly wrong.

The grey, silver and white all look great with red interior.

You'll just have to decide what you want right now, not what you think someone might want it to be in 1-10yrs time if you sell it.

The are only two silvers available - GT and platinum. If you can burn £1k get GT - I have it on my RS60 and it's lovely. However white looks stunning in real life too as on SFOs car and it's "free"!

Thanks all for the replies!!! It really helped and I am convinced that some of the press photos from Porsche are photoshopped a tiny bit. Certainly the red hood looks darker in their photos which is probably why the paint looked a little darker too (which is why I liked it).

I had a look at a Panamera in GT Silver in the showroom and that made my mind up.

Car booked in for an August build with White paint :-)

£66,600

I tried to get the dealer to discount some PCCB's for me at the last minute but there was no movement on price. That would have pushed it to over £70K gulp.

Thanks for the inspiration with your car. As soon as I saw your car I literally picked my laptop up, walked into the kitchen and said to the wife "yep... That's the one".

I then had a 12 hour niggle of doubt yesterday about GT silver which went as soon as I got back to the dealer today!

Cheers, Jon

Brushed aluminium for the centre console??! I think I missed that off because I couldn't work out what it actually was and what it came with as standard. Blimey, don't get me calling the dealer - they'll go nuts if I change it once more..

Seriously though, do you think I should?

yes definitely you should, otherwise the bit of plastic trim around the buttons behind the gearstick will look out of place with the aluminium on the dash and the doors.

having seen brushed aluminium on my loan Cayenne, I would definitely spec it if I was speccing now. very classy trim.

Passed by OPC Bolton the other day and they had an Aqua Blue 981 in the showroom. Best colour by a country mile imho.

If not, do you know what it looks like?

no I do not have brushed aluminium.

but you do, and it would look odd for a bit of non brushed aluminium in the whole cabin
