Car choice: BMW 3 series convertible vs BMW 5 series saloon?

Hey all,

As you may have seen from an earlier topic of mine, I'm in the market for a new car following death-by-Polish-lorry-driver of my old car.

I've narrowed the choice down to:

BMW 3 series convertible, 325i
BMW 5 series saloon, 520d

Very different cars, but I seem to keep oscillating between them!

Any views please on which you prefer and why, and any ownership stories (good or bad)?

P.s. I don't have any kids right now, so it'll just be me (occasionally my girl) in the car most of the time.

I'm not a fan of the 3 series convertible but if you have no kids then it's a no brainer. You might not have the opportunity in the future so live for today and get the 3.

Just not a fan of it's looks. I much prefer a cloth roof on convertibles, the A5 cab or E class cabrio look far more cohesive in my eyes.

Given your circumstances, I think the cab would make a more pleasing choice. Plenty of time for the family 5 yet! Oh dear... this is advice coming from 26 year old who's daily is a 530d. I'm old before my time.
