My W2K PC wont boot and the error NTLDR missing is displayed.
I tried booting from the original CD and entering console mode within the repair utility. This in the hope to replace NTLDR NTdetect and boot.ini.

The problem I have is that at the C: prompt I get the error 'An error occurred during directory renumeration' when performing any dos commands such as dir.

Any ideas

erm, not a healthy machine....

I'm not sure whether something like an fdisk /mbr might fix that, but it's worth a try..

Alternatively, it may be just time to fdisk and start again..

I could be completely wrong on this one, so don't take mine as the only advice!

Check the connections (and jumpers on the HDD) for your hard drive in the PC case, I get these messeges when I haven't set up my SATA drives and hard drives properly in the BIOS. May be woth looking at the boot order in the BIOS, and making sure your hard drive is 1st to boot, (although it still should boot whatever order they're in!

Can you run non-repairing chkdsk on the c: drive. Could be hardware or could be corrupt partition or file tables

NTLDR usually comes up if there is a floppy in the disk drive.

Looked there?
