Red Sea Holiday Village Sharm El Sheikh
Discussion
Hey folks, has anyone been here recently? The wife's just booked to go with our twin daughters as our eldest is doing Barcelona with his grand parents.
Can't say I'm looking forward to it 110 degrees and full of kids! Just how bad is it? Recent reviews seem terrible but it still remains a 5 * resort.

A friend has just returned from ther. Had to hide in the shade for the whole week 44 degrees . . . . Ouch!
Place was good though, Royal Hotel I think, or Grand Hotel, right on the beach, excellent snorkelling and food and drink.
I can check on Monday when she is back at work. Trip advisor.co.uk online is good for un biased reports.

I know I was looking at daily temperatures and I could feel my fair skin burning, read trip advisor and it's really either Brilliant best holiday ever or complete s
t hole wouldn't go back if they paid me type deal.
Hope to bugger off and do some diving and desert driving, just need to remember to pack ear plugs and stomach cramp pills seems a lot of people come back from Egypt with a holiday tummy!

Don't know if it's true or not, but we were advised (went to Hurghada/ Makadi a few months ago) that the Egyptian medication is far more effective - local drugs for local bugs basically!(That said, I didn't have a problem at all in the two weeks we were there - just wash your hands after handling the money etc. etc!)

A German woman got eaten by a shark last year.
Consequently diving's considerably cheaper there this year.
Shark diving isn't really as dangerous as it sounds.
You don't have to be the fastest swimmer.
Just faster than your buddy.
Im planning a trip out there soon for a couple of weeks scuba.
Can't wait.

I've heard before the Egyptians pharmacy's are a little more harder than the stuff we get, it sounds like a brilliant place to dive and I've done a good few dive trip around the world so I think you take your chances with the old sharks. Thanks for your input I guess what will be will be.
We were in Sharm last July and although v hot, there was a lovely breeze most of the time that made things a bit easier. My kids (12, 10, 8)loved it - esp the snorkelling which is very safe. Lots of pools around the all the hotels and, maybe we were lucky, but none of us went down with dodgy tummies.
We've been a few times but we always dive. I'd hate to spend the time on shore all day, you go out early in the morning before it gets too hot and then you're on the boat where there's always a breeze and you can jump in and out of the sea two or three times a day keeping cool, then back to the hotel when the worst of the heat has gone.
If I couldn't go diving or snorkelling every day I'd consider it as a couldn't-pay-me-to-go-back place.

We spent 2 weeks there in 2009, we upgraded to a swim up room on arrival we couldn't book one online due to our daughters age, the swim up room means you can take a cooling dip when ever you like and not have to get involved with the 6am towel rush, the bar waiters would bring you drinks up provided you gave a little tip they seemed to keep an eye out for empty glasses and appear as and when required.
Not the best place we have ever stayed but not the worst either, it was ok, it's a taxi ride away from sharm though there are a few places (shops) tp visit within walking distance, the staff quarters where interesting, if you leave the hotel via the service road rather than main entrance you can see the rooms, basketball sized and full of bunks 3 high and pretty cramped.
Grabbing a taxi was fun, they will fight over you, we tend not to travel to far normally just beach bums, the beach there isn't great but snorkelling off the long pier was good.
Went out into the dunes on a quad trip booked outside the hotel, that was well worth the effort, went late afternoon till sunset, had a good group who where up for the adventurous stuff which was allowed once the guides where confident in your riding.
