Hey guys,

Picked up a new (to me) car the other week and just replaced the head unit for it to something a bit more modern. I replaced the cage and slotted the head unit back in but it wont connect to the cage no matter how far back I push it.

Any ideas? Do I need to use the keys to put the head unit in or are they only used for taking it out?

Cheers for any help

Last time i had this i had to cut away a piece of plastic that was blocking the way behind the dash.

Just check to see if theres any large plastic pieces forcing it to stay forwards.

Are all the clips in the cage out of the way?

Sometimes the ariel plug stops the radio going back, you can buy 90 degree adaptors to get around this.

often the cage has small prongs on the side which may need to be bent inwards for them to engage with the head unit..

This...

What car is it in? Some of the aftermarket fascia adapters can be a bit crap, so might need a bit of persuasion to go in.

It's an MG ZS. I was worred that I might have put the cage in upside down or something.

Nah, as long as the lip is at the front you'll be fine. The likelihood is that when you took the new cage off the new radio, you bent the retaining clips out to remove it and didn't bend them back out into the cage when you fitted the radio.

Just take the radio out, bend the two long clips back so they are inside the cage, then push the radio back in - it should then engage and click into place smile

Entirely possible, as from memory, some Sony cages had an 'up' symbol on them - fit them upside down, and the stereo wouldn't lock in place. Not sure if that's still the case though

Thanks guys, bent the metal prongs out, pushed the unit back in and it clicked in place.
