How wet was that then ?

There was rain as bad in the late 90s. We'd just arrived on the Friday and set camp when a storm hit. The aftermath of tents ripped free and sent flying and others only held in place by gallons of rain water in the was epic.
We drove the whole way on Friday in solid rain. Unable to see more than 100 feet at some points.
The big lunchtime storm saw me squatting like an Indian under an umbrella in the middle of Parking Green and then the early evening shower we were chilling in Arnage.
Luckily we weren't camping so only issue was soaking feet all day.

Weather very very mixed, the only thing we did not get was Snow 
Saw a few Flying Gazebos 
Then a Tropical Monsoon, then Sun, then more rain and this was just one Hours worth of weather! The 24hrs 3 weeks earlier had better weather. Bloody cold at times and its July! Then for a couple of hours it was Hot!

Two major showers (thundery) on Saturday and a couple of light showers and that was it. I've come back brown as toast. Beautiful drive down on Thursday and dry cloudy drive back Monday. Top on once whilst out and about.

I had a conversation with a french friend who asked me why we had brought our weather with us......
I did say that it was because Le Mans is fundamentally an "English" (see note) race event that we just borrow a bit of France to hold it in.
He thought on that basis it was OK
I didn't find it too cold camping but was at Arnage early hours of Sunday morning and at 3.45 am it really persisted it down and once they decided to send the safety car out it wasn't going to make compelling viewing from that point on so sleep was a great plan

We were lucky, roof off on Thursday and half of Friday (until we got to Gace). Watching the racing was great and did not manage to get too wet, through deft use of umbrella, Guinness and ACO tents.

Pity the poor drivers. You wait 2 years to drive your pride and joy at the circuit that made it famous.
My friend was Grid 6 Green BMW CSL Batmobile. We fall from bed at 1am, ready for 3am race. – sky looks OK; car is prepared for slicks. Cars form up about 2.20am – sky looks good. Pace car starts at about 2.55am – dry at Mulsanne; but as they approach Porsche curves there is light rain – race starts. Very heavy rain at Mulsanne on first lap.
You have to drive 15mins before you can return to pits and so my mate does two 7.30ish laps on slicks.
After a very rapid tyre change – driver No2 (Californian who does not drive in rain) declines the drive and so mate leaves pits on wets. Immediately stops raining and track dries quickly, takes forever to get back to pits because of p-p organisation for refuelling; grab some food before returning to motorhome just before dawn, with so much adrenaline pumping around your body that you can’t sleep.
Rise at 8.30am for 11am race.
