best recession purchases...

Jesus, he must have been desperate to give away that much car for that little money.
and that was at trade in price too!
- edit* I think my old car (traded it in last weekend) wasn't a bad recession purchase.
and that was at trade in price too!On Thursday I bought a 1978 Rolls Royce silver shadow with reasonably new paint & mechanically sound for £3100 in cash, an electric push bike which is £650 & a 2003 Ford Street KA that I bought for £900 to resell (but the sun didn't come out for long enough so didn't really try selling it). He's a friend & the negotiations took nearly four hours on a hot day in a lovely little country pub. On Friday he phoned me & we needed to discuss it all again because neither of us were sure if we remembered the finer points of the deal or not.

Had one too many a beers then?
Funny the S-Type should be posted. I had a Laguna DCi runaround which is now SORN'd as the MOT/Tax have run out and I simply can't be bothered to do the work on it necessary to get it through a new MOT (swapping ABS pump, slight exhaust leak, etc). Planning on sticking it on the 'bay for spares/repairs etc.
However, I'm (hopefully!) being sent to work in the US at the end of September, so I want a car to get me around for a few months. Running costs are *not* an issue as I'm trying to keep up the running/cycling/weightloss regime and just need it for the odd trip around etc - but purchasing costs are. I'd noticed recently that the S-Types really are fetching stupidly low prices and was tempted as I wanted a big engined car that nobody else wants to own long term.
Is the S-Type recommended?

£700 for a 13 y/o S Type that was a horrible car when in was new imho....he saw you coming!!
And what can you offer up for £700? As for being 'horrible' they didn't have the shove of the V8 but were still a nice place to be, handle ok and can waft along. Usual patchy build quality in that era but no worse than an average BMW. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
