Hi, just bought an 55 plate M6 coupe in Sepang Bronze. 30k miles on the clock in mint condition. Initially wasn't sure about the colour but in the flesh it's really nice and very different. Car is stupidly fast but at the same time very comfy and luxurious. I've noticed the bluetooth is excellent and much better than my wife's X3. Logic 7 also sounds superb and I love the HUD.

Anyway I had a question. It would be really good if I can get my Spotify music app from my Iphone working through the idrive. Any idea how I can do that? Apparently something like this can be connected to the Aux in to make it work but I have no idea whether it would work or not?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/iKross-Bluetooth-Streaming...

I'm guessing though then Spotify will play via the aux in meaning the sound quality won't be as good?

Any ideas?

The old iDrive system does not support streaming over BT unfortunately. Does your car have an Aux in jack in the centre console or behind the seats?

Or USB you could just plug in?

Yes I was thinking how they could utilise the USB input but then the iPhone isn't really that compatible with USB biggrin

I think the links to the Logitech BT boxes would work but would need someone to wire them into the head unit if it has phono inputs on the rear panel. I reckon the easiest option is to find an Aux in and order one of those and stream to the box whilst connected to the Aux in.

You have several options, none of which are perfect.

1. Get the BMW ipod kit. The kit is about 100-150 quid and will take an hour to fit. You will lose the 6disk changer in the glovebox but can leave an ipod in there instead. The kit is OK but there are limits regarding the number of entries that can be displayed on the nav screen (255 I think). I have this and it is OK.

2. Get a Dension gw500. This (apparently, as I don't have one) works better than the BMW kit.

I don't have an iphone or touch so can't comment on spotify functionality.

3. Get and aux kit fitted. The kit is about 50 quid and can be fitted yourself if you feel comfortable enough (it is not hard at all). You will then need the car coding. The kit is about 50 quid, fitting is about an hour so another 100 if a dealer does it. Coding might be another 100, but ask any dealer. I have this too.

If you get number 3 you will end up with an aux input in the centre console storage area. What you can now do is get a bluetooth to stereo adapter (connected to the newly fitted aux socket)and hard wire it into the 12v that is supplied to the phone storage tray. This will then give you BT audio from any device when you select aux on the idrive.

The downside is that to change music you need to physically control the music device. I purchased a second cup holder (25 quid) and made a phone holder/charger out of it - that allows me to mount my phone and leave it there on charge. I don't bother changing tracks as it is just too distracting and tbh once it is on whatever internet radio station I want I just leave it there

I can vouch for the Dension Gateway 500. I recently fitted the Gateway 500 and AVR module to my E92 M3 and it works a treat. It integrates perfectly with the iDrive system but does require coding with an Autologic system. A good local Indy will have this.

It also gives you a whole host of system inputs / outputs. I also fitted a DVB-T Freeview TV system to my Dension and it works a treat. It was £45 off eBay.

I can play MP3's / TV / Video. I also have two USB ports and a card reader. Great functionality for only a few hundred quid. I got the Gateway off eBay for £200 and the AVR module (if you want video / TV) for £100.

Its a thumbs up from me. thumbup

Just got round to posting some pics. Car is incredibly fast and the noise of the V10 is intoxicating to say the least. You can be doing silly speeds in any gear so need to be careful. It's a big car though as I'm more used to an E46/E92 size.

Fantastic looking car chap.

Re the ipod question. I invested in a Dension 500 and iPod Dock from specdock.com. The combination works really well, where I simply select my Spotify favourites and pop it into the dock and automatically the phone connects and plays through the Logic 7 speakers (which I agree sound fantastic).

Controlling Spotify can be done via the steering wheel although the library text does not appear on the screen. The i-Drive can only display the contents of the itunes library or contents of a memory stick.

I've got USB and RCA aux in connections in my centre armrest cubby hole which is very convenient.

Not cheap, but a fantastic solution nonetheless.

A piccy of the dock in my Alpina B7

Thanks for all the info. Looks like I need the Dension Gateway 500 including the bluetooth module. The Dension BT module allows streaming from my iphone. BUT, one question mark would be how the phone would connect to both the BMW bluetooth and also the Dension Bluetooth. Would that cause issues? I guess I could just delete the pairing with the BMW bluetooth and just use the Dension one instead. Looks like it's going to be a circa £500 investment though when you include a professional to fit the Dension as not sure I could do it.

The car audio installer I used preferred not to sell the Dension Bluetooth module due to the high number of returns as apparently it's very unreliable on anything other than the Porsche entertainment system.

I struggled to find good reviews on the web to convince me otherwise.
