Quick outline.

I work in sales. Each of us have a database of our own customers, which we manage and they are 'our customers' if that makes sense.

I had a terrible last quarter, due to holiday, sickness etc etc

My colleague (in a half pity/half trying to help me out way) said last weekend 'if I get any customers in over the weekend and you can close them, you get the deal'

Now, the normal rule is that if you deal a customer for someone else, they get the deal, you get paid a token sum for helping out. But as numbers count towards your monthly/quarterly target it's nice to have the number.

Anyway, a customer came in, I worked my ass off to deal them and as said, my colleague let me have the deal.

Fast forward to today, I log on from home to check my diary for this week and notice that my colleague has poached a customer from my diary..... I call and he flips out saying that I took one off him etc etc and that I 'owe him'

My view is, if you give someone free reign for a weekend and they do one, it's fair game, taking one back when it's against the normal rules is not on.

Or am I just being a tt? rofl

I don't care. It sounds depressingly miserable.
Are you Voda or Orange?

Car salesmen.

Bunch of s, eh.

Things like this really don't do the industry any favours - just reinforces the general opinion that car salesmen would part-ex their own children if it got them a deal.

It doesn't sound ideal on his part if he said you can have one to help you out then there seems no point in doing that if he then takes one of yours......

I'd put this one down as f**k it, and crack on with your own clients etc.

Well, you are not. In future you make it clear he doesn't take any of your customers.

In other words, he's sharked you for a hands-up deal with a customer of yours that just happens to have pitched up unannounced on your day off and is choosing to "forget" that actually he did you a favour previously, you didn't shark him. It's weak is what it is. Pathetic behaviour. Talk to your sales manager if it might help.

We've all had similar experiences with such colleagues. Best one I had was when after expressing my displeasure at my colleague's unprofessionalism and contravention of established practice, the SM let him carry on and hand over the car and put it on his commission sheet - only to have the deal and commission transferred back to me. Which was nice as it also meant he dropped from 16% to 12% across ALL his deals for missing target by one (the main reason I suspect he chose to be a shark).

That said, was it someone with whom you've had previous dealings/done business - or just somebody allocated to you nominally on the CRM but with whom neither of you have dealt before?

To be honest OP I was reading on the carsalesman's thread just how pleased you were with yourself for "sharking" a deal off one of your colleagues so you probably deserve it.

If the customer is on EGM or comes in and ask's for one of the salesmen at our place and he's off/not around we deal with them as if they are our own customer and with a heavy heart and much resentment hand the deal to the salesman who was asked for/had customer on EGM. I can pretty much trust my colleagues to do this as I would for them, also very handy when you've been off for a week and there's a couple of deals on your desk when you get back!

It was someone I had dealt with previously, kept live in my diary and left a message for 4 days ago.

Haha, yes I suppose you have a point. I suppose what I did was sharing really, but with permission already granted. So more like conservational hunting hehe
