GT3 to BMW 1M Coupe
Discussion
So.... I sold my GT3. It was epic. Truly epic; and to be quite honest, the sale was financially motivated although not in terms of affordability, moreso an abject hatred of depreciation in one car. Looking at 1M Coupes, they have been selling above list price since day 1, and 18 months in, they're still doing so.
This weekend I decided to dip my toe back in the BMW pool. Lets be clear, the 1M is an absolute riot. The engine, while being far from the car's strongest asset, is hugely tractable, and belies it's turbocharged nature (until overboost is engaged, more on that later). It's truly a credit to M-division's abilities to manifest the characteristic instant throttle response of an N/A car with use of two turbos. Listening carefully, you can hear the smaller of the two spin up/down instantly with minute throttle adjustments fore and aft. The real asset of the car is the chassis and M-differential combination; providing prodigious out of corner shove, and the ability to get quite comically sideways as today's (off public road) rainy indulgence proved.
However.
It's no 911. As touted many times, by wiser men than I, "Porsche 911: there is no substitute". I am completely hooked. I absolutely love arse-engined dynamics, and the 911's flat 6 engines in their various air and watercooled formats. I'll never forget a summer afternoon with my brother in France, engaging in a little country road hoonage in the GT3; that noise it leaves behind the car... Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh... whahahaaaaaaappp. The problem I now face is what to bloody well do about it. Get a long term keeper (993 or 964 and slowly 'singerify' it, a la this => ( http://www.pistonheads.com/news/24918.htm) or (likely option) get a GT3 RS 3.8 and keep it for ever and ever amen.
What would you do given a hypothetical sufficient budget for either?

Considering your previous love of your GT3, if you have the means, a 3.8RS seems a no brainer.
Or, if you are considering an older car, why not buy a gen1 997 GT3 and a 964/993 to your spec?
Decisions, decisions....

Unfortunately I don't have the means for a 3.8 RS yet, but it's definitely achievable with a kidney sale Or, if you are considering an older car, why not buy a gen1 997 GT3 and a 964/993 to your spec?

No, the RS would have to be a year or two down the line.
this is like comparing England NT to Spain NT. there is no comparison. a true dry sump engine tested in the crucible of the most grueling endurance races across the world for decades on end to a commuter car based model with turbos slapped on that can't even compare to its bigger brother m3 that can't compare to any iteration of the 911 GT3?
i don't get the comparison because there is none.

Completely disagree, I have had 4 M cars down the years and the V8 M3 is the most BORING M car I have ever driven, definitely would not buy one - 1M however is a lot more fun
