I've been giving SWWSMBO a few weeks respite from modelling mania

and fumes

And now I'm feeling the itch again

So it is a question of where now

On New Year's Day I picked this up in the shop at Brooklands for a couple of quid (did I mention I am a cheapskate) and a Vb Trop (?) is an itch needing treatment for many a year

But this kit would almost certainly need cross-kitting with one with wheel wells eek to reach basic standards.

Still.

there's always this.

As you see I've started by moulding the engine parts from Plastic Padding and glueing one ready for finishing and begun cutting out the fuselage sides.

SO

Which one to play with first?

I ought to have been more informative sorry smile

I am thinking of building a Shorts 330/C-23A Sherpa again

Not sure yet whether to make a vac form and do a couple or just a sides/top/bottom sheet version like the one I built thirty years ago

I understand there was a vac form in 1/72 but that is now rarer than a rare thing you can't get any more

I took zillions of pictures at Fairford the year the Sherpa entered service so I've scads of detail info

My dad's still got an ancient alumninium wax suppository mould from his pharmacy days - the suppositories that came out of it look just like that.

Based upon that alone, I'd go with the Sherpa.

I thought I would show you how the Sherpa is coming along, I have been having fun slowly. Don't think there's any hurry smile

So far I haven't been able to find a single "kit part" to help out so it's been scratch build time round here.

The fuselage box is in progress, and has had its interior padding made up in separate panels. Cut outs for doors and windows where they need to be separate (not having all the dooors open just the front crew door and the tail ramp down)
The front door and its inner structure have been carved and so far, partly detailed

The flight engineer seat is moulded and his station is partly finished, and the MAC transfer added to the upper cupboard hatch/door (ink jet image made in Paint Shop Pro and printed on white decal paper) I have to finish most of the cargo interior before closing the box, that will be a really satisfying moment

The cargo area floor is interesting in the real thing, looks like some kind of plasticated compressed wood compound in real life, Tamiya Deck Tan and Tamiya Flesh dry brushed comes close, this picture shows the undercoat (OK yes I buggered up the grooving with my pen and need to "do do do it again") frown

There are dozens of strips of anti slip tape to put in there yet

Wheels made from several rings of polycard turned on my minidrill, engines from plastic padding and the rudders from laminated polycard with added ribbing from 0.010 Slaters plastic rod (two hot afternoons sitting in the late summer sun) with the gentle aroma of Humbrol liquid poly up my poor old nostrils YUKK

Wings carved from several lengths of thick polycard, there's hours of fun left in these

Good progress there - it's almost like scratchbuilding the entire thing rather than building a kit.

Didn't I mention that?

All scratchbuilt, I know there's a very hard to get kit.

I didn't try to get one.

Pretty simple box construction in the main, with extra toppings smile

The internet has been very helpful for interior details too.

Having a whale of a time researching al that stuff.

Interesting stuff.

It should inspire to get on and finish the Welsh Models 1/144 S330 that has been siting part-completed on my shelf of shame for a few months.
