Alfa Romeo gtv t spark
Discussion
Hi guys. I went and seen one of these today it's cheap £499 and has 132k but it seems solid there's no rust etc but also no service history.
The only issue I have Is when I got it started ( battery was very dead) it seemed a bit tappety and when I switched it off there was quite a loud clunk, the petrol cap opened and the car refused to start again. There were no dashboard lights on either. Is this likely to be just a dead battery or something much worse? Also the windscreen wipers only worked on the highest setting.
Thanks.

I'd definitely walk away from that one. The 'tapperty' noise, if it sounds more dieselish than anything else, could just be a knackered variator, these are commonly not replaced on twin spark Alfas as they don't cause too much damage being left. The other symptoms sound pretty terminal to me.
I'd imagine there's plenty of choice of these old GTVs now so bide your time. For the same money you might just be lucky enough to bag a history'd up example with under 100k.
If the ride and handling is sloppy or downright too firm then you'll find the rear suspension needs an overhaul along with the front needing top and bottom arms.
