Comes down to economics really.

The S2 is acknowledged as being the better car but if you can't afford it, get an S1 as they're still great! The S2 comes with optional A/C - very desirable in an Exige I believe!

That said, unless you're doing lots of trackdays then a 111R is probably a more 'practical' proposition as a daily drive.

Id take the S2 - much more usable on a daily basis, and Toyota engine should be good for 120K miles without issue...the K series VHPD may well have needed 2 or 3 rebuilds before then

You get aircon, central locking, comfy seats, decent stereo, suspension that dosent bang, interior that dosent squeak etc with the new car...albeit at a price !

Since when has the S2 been acknowledged as the better car? Most people feel the S1 is still the car to have.

Before you buy have a search on Exiges.com.

I guess the S1 is lighter...but what else has it got going for it over the new S2 version? ;

Looks - depends on taste
performance - similar
Engine - Toyota has got to last longer !
Interior - S2 far more comfy and practical
price - well the S1 is definately more affordable

Interestingly that perception has been changing a lot of late as some of the more rabid S1 owners have been upgrading to S2s!

Most people end up trying to back up their own purchase choice rather than make objective judgements on this type of thing.

Well I was at teh Top Gear Elise feature day and the racing diver peddling the cars round preferred the S" to the S1, in fact he didn't like either of the S1s at all. I haven't driven either but all the reviews I have read in various publications would back my statement up as well.

I imagine 'most people' on Exiges.com are S1 owners and are liable to be at least a bit partisan

Don't think anyone can deny that the S2 is a cracking car but it's primarily a road car whereas the S1 is more of a track car. Advantages of the S2 will be everyday usability and reliability and, with the S1, looks and performance. It really depends on what you want from a car. Personally I havn't fallen for the S2, I like and respect it but it doesn't have the 'WOW' factor of the S1.

Really the one to go for is the S1 with a Honda engine, but then I'm biased.

I thought you were hard until I spotted the beetle in your profile! Do you put a fresh flower in the holder every day?

You can't disagree that the S1 is the more raw prospect though - so really I'm not wrong, am I?

However, as for the whole track slag thing, the Radical's I think must be the most awesome £ for £. In that respect, "the dude abides"

P.S. I'd have thought you'd have chucked Noble's in the mix there too given your current change of affiliation!
