Now 1 month into buying a Carrera 2 manual 996 Facelift, and I have to say, it's very, very good.

Nothing like as quick in a straight line as its predecessor (V8 Cerb), but everything is just 'very good' - engine pulls well, lovely punch in your back as you hit third, then fourth, then 5th and onwards, copes with bumps well, handles nicely - responsive, but not twitchy. Bit of understeer if you enter too hard, and much more difficult than I thought to get the back round on the gas. I suspect it's almost slightly over tyred - GT3 285/30s on the back. Only slight flaw are the brakes - good but quite wooden. New pads, perhaps?

Very easy to hustle along quickly - never seems to run out of grip, especially at the back...

Inside is good - even big enough for all 6'4" of me. Still trying to find a decent iPod/CDR22 solution though...

So, second Porsche, first 911, and I have to say....you can see why they've sold millions of them.

Nice One. I've had mine since last October and I've been hugely impressed with how it drives. Please let us know if you find an ipod solution, I could do with that too.

Enjoy!

..don't expect too much from the brakes, they were not great from new, change the fluid for starters, then pads and that's what you got.. !

I came to Porsche from a Tuscan, I decided before even driving them that nothing other than the turbo would do as I figured the carrera just wouldnt be quick enough. The Turbo is quick but definitely now raw like the Tuscan but as you said, its all very good. The only thing I really miss is the noise smile

Glad you're loving your carrera!
