So I've done a bit of searching on here (although apparently the forum search is down currently) and not really found any threads relating to insurance.

I'm saving hard and hoping to buy one around January time. I was wondering what people are typically paying to run their Imprezas, but also who they're using to insure them? Mainstream or specialists?

I'll be using it at weekends as I have an oil burner daily drive and when I come to round to buying mod free, I'll be 27, 9 years experience with 8 years NCB

Keith Michaels are very good. Speak with Gary Moulson (he is hard to get hold of, but be persistent).

Mainstreams are OK, but get expensive when you want to modify.

As above, but if it's standard and with your NCB, you may find you get a good quote with Direct Line... consistently cheapest for me though I've got a couple of years over you age-wise - having said that, I got my first Impreza when I was 30 and they were the cheapest back then too.

Thanks for the replies chaps, I'll bear those in mind. I've also heard the name Chris Knott thrown around in various places. Does anyone have any experiences with them or currently insured with them? I've heard that they'll only insure you if you've had the car a year or more?

Chris Knott were ok when I used them in the past. Keith Michaels when my Integra was stolen however washed their hands of the whole thing and I had to deal with the underwriter directly.

Thanks for the reply Mal Luke. Since I posted this I've done some more internet searches and Sky Insurance also appear to come out on top a lot with competitive quotes for modded cars. I'm afraid I'll be looking to get an STI, and not until just after christmas as I'm still about 2k short of my budget.

29, not a great postcode in Leeds, 5 years mfg & 3 points.

Directline quote me 900 on a blobeye Sti.

My crappy passat was 300 in Swindon, and is now 500 up in Leeds so I don't think that's too bad.
