Currently sat at home waiting for BMW assist to come to the daily driver which has dumped its water all over the drive. Will be cracking out the reliable Chim to provide emergency transport shortly. Add to that all the TVRs and the Lotus in our group making it safely to Le Mans and back whilst a BMW and Lexus both broke down, hm makes you wonder which cars have the right reputation for reliability.

I bought mine about 6 months ago which my colleagues found absolutely hilarious as they thought it would be breaking down all the time. I've had the throttle cable snap and that's it in the time i've been driving it in and out every day. Two of the BMW's have been in the garage 3 or more times in that period of time.

Joke is on them really.... allthough maybe not on the petrol front, but who really cares about that !

Mark.

I sometimes get the same comments from 'those that know'.

They all act kind of surprised when I tell them I've had the Chimaera over 11 years and the only time it left me stranded was last December when the fuel pump relay went. Even then it was in my garage, and cost me £6 to repair.

The really worrying thing on a modern car is the way these things are serviced. There was very little water in the car, whilst it may have lost water all of a sudden we couldn't find anything so assume it has been losing it slowly. Got some water in it and back mobile in the daily driver, booking in for the dealer to look and see why it lost water.

What worried/annoyed me was that it was only in for a service 2 weeks ago. So I said to the assistance chap surely it must have lost the water within those two weeks, well apparently not. We checked the details of what was done and it was only a brake fluid service, so apparently they don't do anything else such as even a basic check of fluids, tyres, etc. If this is right thepreheat seems pretty rubbish to me, if it goes in for a service, even on these variable timing things where they just do the bits that need doing they should still at least check the basics. Will not be assuming they have checked anything in the future. I normally check my own cars very regularly but as this is a works car and just been to the dealers i didn't bother for a few weeks. My mistake, won't assume that again. Doesn't explain where all that water went though.

I think this is one of the reasons many of us find our TVRs to be more reliable than people expect, generally they are properly maintained. With modern cars on ever increasing service intervals I am not convinced this is the case.
