Chimaera/Griffith clear front indicators (again)..

Hello -

Has anyone recently sourced some clear front lenses for Chimaera/Griffith indicators?

I've searched through the threads on here (and thanks for the usefull info. to those who posted), and most of the contacts I've tried don’t have any in stock. I need some ASAP as I've removed the grill and old ones without much bother, but the grills are currently sat on my desk awaiting new lenses!

I've tried a number of TVR dealers all with little success (inc. TVR Centre and TMS/TVR Gear), and also Leavesley Military Vehicles (as previously suggested) but the spares chap is not in.

The old lenses are orange Lucas parts marked FV760734 with the lens and screw cap together as one component, and are fitted to a Chimaera with the separate grills for the front indicators.

Does anyone now of a Lucas/LandRover/Military Vehicle/TVR supplier/Anybody(?!) in the Surrey/Berkshire region where I might be able to get my hands on some without the wait?

They are the same as the clear revering lenses on the newer rear lights I believe.....that's what I've got anyway.

Correct - but I cant find anyone with them in stock! Been told by every dealer I speak to that they are on "backorder" with the factory - that and about one million other parts by the sounds of it!

Thats why I'm trying the Land Rover route too, but without much success...

I did mine recently...got them off ebay.

They are off, amongst other things, Nato spec landrovers...
The part numbers are in my car's profile / summary.

While sourcing, got a response from these guys -

Cheers Stu - your lead with Marcus Glenn was perfect. They have some in stock and are posting out today!

BTW - its £8 each for the earlier (glass) ones and £10 each for the later plastic!? So bargain price and a lot cheaper than the TVR dealers were quoting!

Excellent value. After several months of giving careful consideration to the matter, I've finally come to the conclusion that I prefer the clear lenses...

Well, I think I do!

At least it won't be an expensive mistake if I decide I don't.

Got to be worth it. If only everything on a TVR was as cheap as its indicators!

Front & side repeator upgrade is the second cheapest I've done to my Chimaera, after the lavish 60p I had to spend on the steering wheel alloy screws!!!

Cant believe the price I paid a TVR bodyshop for the front and side light upgrade on my old Cerbera. If only I'd taken the time and trouble to do it myself then! Live and learn I suppose...

The main dilemma I have, which I don't think will ever be resolved, is whether to go for afterburners (or 'upgrades').

I went to put an orange bulb in the front of the S the other day and found the bulb holder had the 2 holes lined up directly opposite each other, meaning that the orange indicator bulbs wouldnt fit.

Re. rears! I had this problem again with my old cerbera. Wanted to upgrade from the old fiesta pods, but couldnt decide which route to take.

Deciding factor was I wanted to keep all upgrades within the boundaries of those offered by TVR themselves, and plummed for the later TVR pods. Certainly worth it on the Cerbera.

Must say I never even thought about the rear lights being an issue on the Chimaera, quite like the fiesta look now! Weirdo...

These were the bulbs I was going to order (from FlipFlopGriff's previous thread):

Philips Silvervision - they have a mirror finish and flash orange so you don't get the fried egg effect.

Can't really remember to be honest...I think they are the ever so slightly offset standard indicator ones...but the holders did not have accurate slots..more like a couple small 'dents'

I went for the standard orange bulbs because I could not get decent silvered ones (the cheap ones are crap BTW as the coating is too thick so the bulb does not shine through brightly enough)

You don't notice the orange bulds to be honest.

The deciding factor for me in the end, I fear, will be the cost. It's an unnecessary expense particularly as I'm unsure whether I prefer afterburners to the originals. And it's not as if I would get much enjoyment out of them unless someone else drove my Tiv and I followed behind!

I think you can see the orange bulbs but then our car is very light and probably shows up more than the darker colours.
Very happy with the silvervision bulbs.

You mean stainless steel ones don't you - some alloys (including aluminium) weaken over time and stress, not ideal for a steering wheel
