What do the collective Chefs of PH think is the best way of making porridge with water.

I'm talking so its thick and creamy and will set you up for a good morning.

Any ideas?

Is rice/soy milk an option? Just a suggestion.

The secret is to soak the oats overnight.

In the morning, boil it up, stirring continually, and add a grated red apple plus a good dusting of cinnamon.

ETA: fresh blueberries are also nice in it.

Leave it to soak overnight and when heating it, chuck a handful of sultanas in. Serve with cinnamon.

Damn, beaten to it...

I dont mind using a little bit of milk, but if I can avoid it I would like to- you may have seen my other thread with the diet I have been doing this week. It says not to have milk, and even though from tomorrow I am no longer on the diet (its only a week long one) I would still like to not have milk if possible. I hope that makes sense!

cinnamon, banana and sultanas!

I use 1 cup of oats, 2 cups of boiling water, let it sit for a minute then in the microwave for 2 mins.

If i feel inclined I'll add a splash of milk.

Run the water in the sink 'til it's hot. open the packet of porridge, mix with the hot water as it flushes down the drain. Cook some bacon and a couple of fried eggs and be pleased with yourself that you escaped a bowl of tasteless stodge! biglaugh

I prefer it quite dry, so i use 2/3 cup of oats, add just enough water to cover, then blitz for 2 1/2 mins in the microwave. Often add sultanas & banana.

Instant oats don't taste as good, so i avoid them. Currently buy Flahavans.

I don't soak or faff about.
Use good quality rolled oats and just use a little more water than you think is necessary.
Give it time to cook properly, let it simmer for a few minutes. Add a little salt - it's a little bland without.
