which silicon for sealing headlights??

ok, have an urgent requirement for the silicon/sikaflex used for sealing th headlight lenses, so anyone with have any ideas, need to get it quick as car needed for event this weekend.

If your that stuck for some, try windscreen sealant off autogalss repairs van or what ever

cheers, found in the sag bible that its sikaflex 221, will have to make some calls tomorrow to see who sells it over here.

Clive, I would use sikaflex 221 for bonding the Perspex down to the body and Ambersil 5024a to seal the gaps between the lens and the body. You need a good 12hrs for the sikaflex to cure too otherwise they can fall off!

I've been using tigerseal for the rear perspex covers on the chim and also for holding in the front indicators. IIRC you can pick it up in halfords (but I get it from amazon).

I used a silicon bead called Homelux http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servle...

Its very sticky and will hold the cover on firmly with little mess. Then I used some Black Unibond multi purpose silicon to seal between the light and body. It came out well and very neat if I do say so myself. Also no leaks or condensation.

All this stuff you can just pop down to Homebase and buy.

You should be able to get 221 from any good paint or body shop tvr's are held together with the stuff..... No joke

I prefer Acrylic sealers i.e Silkaflex, Tiger Seal, etc for this kind of thing rather than Silicone IMO.

Silicon is unlikely to last i made the mistake a few years back of using black silicon sealant from a diy shop. 6 months later it all fell apart so had to spend ages getting it all off then re-do with tiger seal

Sikaflex is popular with nautical types, must be a few chandlers merchants over there ?

You need more practice Clive soapy water/or spit and your baby finger better than factory

I would try Aquarium Silicon sealant...maybe slightly dearer, but accustomed to holding together up to 10mm of plate glass with half a ton of water behind it for many years.
