....evening chaps, just popped over from the Porsche forum to ask you a few CL55amg questions, I've checked the search facility but it appears to be down....

So I have the opportunity to buy a 2002, silver, CL55amg privately from an elderly guy who has owned it for the last 7 years. It has 114k miles on the clock and has all the bells and whistles. The car is in superb condition with full MBSH and looks as though it has wanted for nothing, the air suspension was replaced earlier this year at a cost of over 2k! The seller is local and the car appears genuine, although I will have it inspected before purchase.

I suppose I'm wanting to know would I be buying into a load of expense, as the car is 10years old and although it's been looked after there is an awful lot to go wrong! I will pay in the region of 5k for the car which seems a fair private price, or not, what do you think, worth a punt?

At £5kish with the history as described, and if the bodywork is alright (notorious on these) and the supercharger is still doing its thing, I would probably already have taken it; yes it could be storing up a mountain of bills - but what do you expect? If you've got someone you trust who doesn't charge MB dealer rates to look after it...well, you know what I'd do. You might have an unfortunate tale in a few weeks/ months/ years, but you might not. Read the thread about the cracked piston if you want putting off...
