Ok after making lots of noise about how my Clio 172 cup would be fine with a baby I'm having to eat my words. It turns out these rear facing car seats really are that big. And yes we really do have to take all that. Also as we're now a one car family the harsh ride and fiddly seats are a bit of a pain if I'm honest.
Anyway, my insurance is due for renewal next month so really need to sort something out as I don't want to have to insure it again as its not as cheap as you would imagine.

So. I need a radical change. I've only ever had hot hatches so overlook bigger stuff and par them off as boring. Can someone point me in the direction of what may suite my needs.

Needs to be spacious. Big boot, thinking estate? Not 4x4
I don't really like diesels. Ye I know, they probably are better these days but I guess I just like the smell of petrol or something.
It need to be at least quirky, if not fun, or luxurious, or fast even. All four would be amazing!
Mpg is an issue, I'm not minted and do 10k a year. So I need to be getting somewhere near 30 mpg.
Unfortunately I need all this for less than 5k.

On the plus side I'm no badge snob and I don't care how old it is. It will have to be a good useable car and if it's 12 years old or even ore that's fine.

Any hidden gems

Anyone want a Clio.

Bit of a random question, do you play battlefield 3 on ps3 with the same name?

For sub 5k, anything like a vectra or mondeo (astra or focus if you want smaller) would do you fine.
Or a 2.2 direct signum would offer loads of space and the 30mpg you desire. Also, they aren't exactly sought after so prices make them good VFM.

Hot hatch, big boot, 30mpg, no badge snobbery.

Perfect candidate for an Octavia vRS: 200bhp, closely related to the Golf GTi, plenty of room in the back, enormous boot, even as a hatch.

You could pick up a not so old or Mega miley ST220 estate for that money.

My old one did 30mpg if you took it nice and steady, soon dropped when playing though. Great car though.

It's a good choice, might be a bit thirsty for the OP though. One of the lesser variants (diesel, 1.8 turbo, or even the rover) might be a bit more up his street. For a big old barge they really do drive nicely.
