Hi. This is going to look like the worst "I can afford an expensive new car" thread... Sorry, but here goes... And the search function isn't working or I would try there first.

Has anyone recently found a good deal for insuring a car that lists near £100k (fortunately I'm paying somewhat less)? I've put a call out to Adrian Flux and Bridle.

Admiral and Porsche (Aviva) have quoted around £1000. Seems only yesterday I was paying £500 to insure a new GTS. I'm being told the extra on the list price makes a big difference. Another reason for 991 detractors to gloat, eh?

Any recommendations gratefully received.

I would love to get a quote for £1000 for mine but mine is going to be £1600+

I can't help other than that, as I've not looked properly as its not worth it for me yet, been advised that the Porsche insurance may be the best but not really tried any other than a quick "confused" quote

I'm with Porsche Insurance and when I traded my GTS in for my 991 I had to pay an additional premium of £300 (on my existing policy ending in early December) - I guess this would make my total annual premium around £1100 (up from £500).

Yes that was a bit of a shock too!

Liking this. £1000 for a £100k car biggrin You should look at those 'trying to get my 17 year old insured on a 1.2 Corsa that I bought for £300' threads. Figures of £4000+ are talked about.

My 987 back in 2005 cost £700 to insure, parked in a London street, business use, working in Entertainment so a grand does not sound too bad, especially as insurance has risen massively in the past 7 years.

I'm finding it hard to keep my insurance for my 14 year old E36, worth bugger all, below £400 at the mo' and I'm weeks away from my 50th.

Yeah. My son is 17 next birthday and I shall look back on this conversation with a wry smile. biggrin

I don't mind the cost so much as the leap in price from a 2011 policy to a 2012. Seems the best bet might be to talk down the value of the car (let's face it the trade book value will be little over 80k) and top up with GAP insurance, which is under £300 for 3 yrs with a limit of £50k to make up. Anyone see a flaw with this approach? The GAP terms relate to invoice value not insured value.

As in previous years, insurance has shot up on each renewal so it might not be the difference in value. The insurance company that I have been with for years had a nasty rise for me this year when previously they have managed to keep below or equal to the competition.

Sadly I had to leave them when I found a much cheaper quote elsewhere.

Agree. 1% of face value is the wrong price in your favour. Bite their hand off.

This is sound advice I'm sure. The paradox is that I don't seem to mind pouring money into OPCs' pockets but I hate paying for insurance. Probably because I've made one claim in over 30 years of motoring (10 years ago for £1700) and don't see why my premiums should be almost doubling as I near 50...

And this doesn't make me feel any better... Though I think Tony has a few more years on me...

Think of it as having landed some really cheap insurance for the GTS smile

£1K sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I am paying £2K for the GTS, A7 and JCW Mini - but for that I get agreed values, new for old on the A7 and GTS, drive any un-owned car fully comp up to £200K in value for me and the missus, business use for us both, cover across all of Europe continuously, no NCB loss for vandalism/weather/non-fault damage.

smile

P.S. When is it arriving??
