Porsche PCM2/No Satellites
Discussion
About 4 weeks ago my nav stopped working on my 07 Boxster S. In the status screen it says that it is not picking up any satellites and the map currently shows it is off the coast of Wales somewhere in the middle of the sea.
I took it to the Porsche Centre in Towcester and they diagnosed a faulty GPS antenna so I booked it in to have it replaced. The day they had the car they phoned me to say it wasn't the antenna as the new one still didn't work, and that it must be the DVD drive itself (Becker BE6665) and it was £1,050 for a fitted replacement.
Due to the lack of confidence with them misdiagnosing it I refused to pay this until I had exhausted all other routes of trying to fix it.
I have tried a 148 reset and no change.
I have tried removing the fuses for 10 mins and no change.
I have tried disconnecting the battery for 20 mins and no change.
I have done a continuity test on the GPS cable and it is fine.
The connections to the antenna and the DVD unit are fine.
There is definitely 5V going to the GPS cable socket in the DVD drive.
The nav is reading the disc fine as it will plan a route from it's currently incorrect location to my home address and the route list is correct, it just does not seem to know what it's current location is due to not picking up any satellites.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received as I genuinely don't think the DVD drive is the issue.
Cheers

Hi,
I work at the OPC Bournemouth and 90% of the problems with sat nav problems are due to the GPS antenna not being connected or the connector being broken since a car has had its windscreen replaced.
Other problems can be caused by other unit such as DVD drive, phone unit etc. They all run on an optical loop (orange cables)
I would advise you to ask them if they could fit a doner unit from perhaps a used sales car they have in stock to confirm 100% that it is the DVD drive causing the fault.
If you pay that the replace to unit and it is still not fixed and mid diagnosed by the technician thou are not obliged to pay for the technicians error!

Thanks for reply Scott.
The optical loop is the only other thing I think it could be. I know I am not obliged to pay if they don't fix it but paying £1,000 to fix what they think 'might' be the issue make me uneasy even if I get the money back. It could be the drive but there might be a way to fix the existing unit for significantly less.
I asked them last week to find a functioning unit to swap out and they've not come back to me yet, fingers crossed we can try this though. They just don't have any 07 Boxsters in stock.
