Couple of AJPV8 Questions..

First up.. Apologies for any 'asked a million times already' questions.. Google is giving me jack, and I've lost patience trying to search on my phone.
What year are the 'clatter cams'? 4.2 only?
In reality, is there much difference between the 4.2 and the 4.5? (Opinions are like a
holes.. Get 'em out lads..) Some say yes, some say no.. To me, 40bhp more and the extra torque says yes. Seen comments on the 4.2 being more aggressive, but ultimately the 4.5 is more err brutal.

Theres so many differences between engines let alone engine sizes, you might drive two 4.2s with clatter cams and find they feel totally different to each other.. some 4.5s will be down on power, some 4.2s will be up..
Hence the mixed opinions and the general rule to just buy on condition!
If you can find a dyno'd 4.5 that feels fast to you, its probably your best bet seeing as they seem easier to sell on also.. I can't say the 4.2 vs 4.5 thing bothered me much when i had my clatter cam 4.2...

4.2 soft cam - smooth
later "4.2" -(4.5 with 4.2 induction) - smooth but probably more power than a normal soft cam.
4.5 - soft but makes more power on paper and probably a higher vmax

Ive driven loads over the years and owned a 4.5 a speeed six and my current Cerb is the one above, a late 4.2I discounted the speed six this time around for personal reasons as I believe the Cerb needs the V8. Then I bought on condition not engine and got a beautiful late 4.2. Its fast, bloody fast and doesnt bother me in the absolute slightest that its not a 4.5.
I've also been told by Tom at Topcats that its in the best nick of any unrestored or untouched Cerb he's ever seen, so a result there.

Think in terms of bhp/ton.Standard E36 M3 is around 190-200 if google reads right, 4.2 is around 350 and 4.5 around 370.

Andy at APM reckons the best combination for a cerb is 4.5 bottom end, 4.2 induction and a lightweight flywheel to reduce transmission loss and allow the engine to rev freer.
If its good enough for him...... ;-)
Drop a pm to M3John on here, he has a E36 M3 and used to have a 4.2 Cerb.

- Cerb approx 300 bhp/ton
- E36/E30 will be approx 260 bhp/ton

Yup.. See what you are saying. It wasn't a stripped track toy though. I daily'd it. 316i shell with a few lighter bits. I see the 2 cars as similar in ideals.. Big engine up front, light weight and noisy. I am hoping I guess the Cerb is the next step in performance that I see it as being. Definitely a lot sexier!

This, forget figures. We've proven in the past that it punches well above its weight(/power!)Its all about the delivery with the AJP, which makes it such a special engine. A combination of the revviness, the torque, the power delivery and the sound all make it into a much more voilent force than you'd think. A healthy Cerb 4.2/4.5 is a fantastic weapon for absolute hoonary, I've never driven or been in a car before or since that has had such a malevolent streak to it; elevens everywhere, why not?

I miss it greatly, the T350 is a better car in many, many ways - but I'll be back in a Cerbera when I can, along side the T350. I guess that speaks volumes?
