Yeah, yeah, and it was close to the Gents (very handy that) and everyone had to walk past the Corvettes and admire those fine cars on the way for a pee.

Not sure why the skip was there - suggestions please.

Finally, when are we going to see the pics or do we have to wait for you (like we did in Germany )

To quote Bill Paxton in "True Lies"

"The 'vette gets 'em wet!"

Paul, if you don't get better than 144 next year you'd better put that Viper in the skip!!!

You are NOT helping sell more Vipers!

Paul, my old mate, what you have failed to grasp is that some people can successfully wear a check shirt, and some can't. Alas one of us is in the former category and you are in the other.

Anyway, as I recall, for TOTB3 you had a very plain shirt on with some sort of Viper logo stuck on your left tit.

Hi guys, I was at 10 of the best and I can tell you exactly why the skip was there.

The bay next to the Corvette owners was set aside for the MR2 owners club but only 1 car turned up so they had to be represented by something else. Some people where asking the MR2 owner what the skip was running under the hood and if it was an import! NUFF SAID!!!!

Top marks to all who attended, thanks for the show!!

Well said that man.
Stuart, I've just copied this thread to the MR2 forum - hope that's ok.

God, and we complain when people make comments like that about vettes :-) Before getting my Z06 I happily ran an imported <gasp> twin-turbo <eek> MR2 for quite a few years. It never broke down, was relatively cheap to run, wasn't too hard on the eyes, was nimble and in the 0-60 stakes wasn't too shabby at all, often taking people with much more expensive cars (does this sound familiar) to shame.

I'd actually have to say that around town it was one of the best small sports cars I could have wanted. If I wanted to have a race across London, I'd probably choose the MR2 over the vette.

On the open road, that's something else, but although it took a few seconds longer to get there than in the vette, 130mph was perfectly achievable, with the car staying pretty stable throughout. It was definitely a 'chuck it about' car, being very stable and controllable. I did things in that car that I wouldn't even dare try in the vette.

If I had to go back to one I don't know whether I'd be so complimentary, but on a bangs for bucks basis I'd definitely consider getting another.

Like the vette, don't knock it until you've tried it :-) We don't want more Jeremy Clarksons...

Just being picky, but was it not a twin entry turbo, rather than a twin turbo

It was unfortunate, I know a number of guys from the IMOC bunch and a couple of them are building some very speedy cars but they could not get them finished for the event in time, always next year though.

Regardless of tuning an MR2 Turbo will never sound like a 'vette

The mark II MR2 is a very pretty car and for me is one of the best cars I have had. Only problems with mine was leaking around the T-Tops (this will sound familiar to vette owners), it was like a sauna in the cabin in the summer and it was a pita to work on because of were the engine was. Apart from that I really liked it.

Yep... my bad :-)

It just seems silly to me that folks on this list in particular should dog other cars when they're actually pretty damn good at doing what they're designed for. The Mk II MR2 GT-S turbo did exactly what it said on the box, which was to be an affordable sports car that could scare the bejesus out of cars 2, 3 or even 4 times its price :-)

Sounds like it's got more in common than the vette than some would like to think!

Don't despair.

If its any help I went to Hockenheim with the Vette guys and they took me to there heart.

Constantly took the piss out of me, raced me on the road, tried to get me drunk...........

Great bunch.

BTW the MR2 is a good car I think the pop was at the lack of cars that turned up.

Hope to meet you soon for some

Sorry to confuse here Ken, I wasn't pulling you up on a typo.
What's more is I'm not even going to get into the merits of a comparo between the MR2 and the Corvette, more important stuff to do.

its hard to see why Toyota are going to stop production of both the MR2 and Celica. That will be the end of the line for the best 3 models in the range - Supra, Celica, MR2

Actually the axe of the Celica and MR2 is to make way for a new Supra. Read a recent thread on Supraforums about a 2005 Supra. All pieces of information coming from two senior Toyota employees. A bit of competition won't do any harm for the consumer (but I'll always stay loyal to the Vette, or the Vette and Viper lol).

Funny how the Celica GT4 used to be a 280bhp 4WD car (2.0 litre I4). Quick car. And then the newer model afterwards was 190BHP and FF. Odd. This contributed to the boring image Toyota have, hence the possibility of a new Supra.

Little suprised about how much we are discussing Toyota's in this thread, but erm, fair enough.

Toyota are strange, Celica and MR2 they put the 3SGTE engine in. Rev 1 & 2 versions 220bhp, Rev 3 onwards 240bhp, overfuels like mad so easily tuned to 300bhp and if your serious with engines can be taken to over a 1000bhp, Topsecret did I think (Weighs less than the 6 cylinder and can be fitted further back into the engine bay)

Then they stop the Supra and bring out a feeble version of the Celica and MR2, they also never sold the MR2 turbo version outside Japan or America and the American version is only 200bhp, why they never sold it in Europe I have no idea, would have sold like hot cakes.

Hopefully the development of the F1 car will filter down into their cars soon.

There were supposed to be a coupple of tuned MR2 Turbo's near to 500bhp for TOTB III, but they were never ready in time, which was a shame.
