I have pretty much wanted a TVR since I saw the Cerbera launch at the London Motor show nearly 20 years ago.

I changed my job earlier on this year and they gave me a company car. So I am now in the position that I can afford to have a second car. So it had to be TVR.

I test drove a car yesterday in Swindon and put a deposit down, I'm picking it up tomorrow! It's a 1998 4.0 Chimaera with 60k on the clock. I think the owner hitting 130mph during the test drive with the roof down sold me!

I am now going to pray for good weather as I have to drive it back from Swindon to Maidstone!

I'll post some pics up when I can.

Nice one mate. Drive it slow and steady. Tiv's have this habbit of doing whatever they want every once in a while moreso in the wet.

hint phoenix - your ride will be all the nicer if the tyre pressures are set to 22 front/24 rear. worth checking before you set off. mine had 36 in the new rears, straight from the dealer. drove like a box of frogs on a griddle.......woohoo

Brilliant news and reassuring that the owner wasn't afraid to drive it!

I've had one for eight weeks - absolutely love it but it was a garage queen (200 miles in last 2 years) and although all seemed well on the test drive a lot has needed replacing since I got it (just worn/perished components - HT leads, fuel lines, cv boots etc).
Still it's brilliant now (touch wood!)

So I made it back from Swindon ok, it didn't rain at all. Chimaera was amazing, loads of grunt in any gear. I love the pops and bangs it makes on deceleration, I even got a thumbs up from a Ferrari driver on the way back!

However I have my first (of many probably!) problem, already. The alarm key fob doesn't work. I tried new batteries to no avail. I have contacted Carl (at car and bike installations) so hopefully he can help me out. I don't have the red card to reprogram so it, so I'm going to have to take the top part of the dash apart to get to the alarm unit so I can send it off to be reprogrammedbanghead

Also the speedo is at least 10mph over. An indicated 90mph is actually 75 by my gps. Is this common?

I've only seen one Chimaera in Maidstone, that was last month and it was green.
Plenty of tuned up Corsa's though!

Anyway here are some pics:

Very nice, and a great colour combination. thumbup

Carl Baker is the only person I would bother speaking to about the alarm, but sounds like aleeady have.

Enjoy the car and take it easy in the wet.

Nice looking example and welcome to the fold!

Re the alarm if it's original hold it low down near the front of the windscreen when pressing the fob, sounds like you are getting that sorted but it may still work.

Cheers

Right so I have just spoken to Carl, he certainly knows his stuff! He is recommending I replace the whole system with a new one at a cost of £540ish. I can get the key reprogrammed for £150, but it may fail at a later date, especially as I have the hot start kit fitted.

Have any of you guys had this done, is it worth it?

I know TVR's have a reputation, but I didn't expect a £540 bill the day I bought it!

I've never used Carl, but my Cerbera owner dad has done and is full of praise for him.

My Chimaera was refitted with a Clifford alarm prior to me buying it, which gives no issues........ apart from the remote locking not working (a problem I've never got round to looking at).

Nice colour, I'll keep an eye out for you wink (I'm in Aylesford)

It depends if the car is a keeper or not. I was in a similar situation to you where I could have got away with spending £150ish to fix the existing system or the full £500 to have a new Meta 3 system fitted.

As I intend to keep the car long term I went for the full replacement option. For that price also got the keys converted so they are built into the alarm fob and the boot popper fitted which is a fantastic mod. If you are not looking to keep the car long term maybe the cheaper option would be best.

I just tried to disconnect the battery lead, it's almost impossible to get to in the passenger footwell. Is there an easier way, ie can I disconnect a fuse instead?

I have heard nothing but praise for Carl on here.
However when I had issues with my alarm my local Auto electrician removed the alarm and sent it off to meta had it reset and 2 brand new fobs for £99 not had a problem since.

Make sure when you start it you face the exhausts in the direction of your Evo driving neighbour; let him know what he's missing......
